  • Publication number: 20040187065
Abstract: An error flag generation apparatus and method for error correction, wherein the apparatus includes: a frame-sync error memory which stores frame-sync error information for each data block; a BIS (Burst Indicator Subcode) error flag memory which stores a BIS error flag for each data block; and an error flag generator, which generates an error flag indicating error existence/absence for ECC (Error-Correction Coding) data with reference to the frame-sync error information stored in the frame-sync error memory and the BIS error flag stored in the BIS error flag memory. Therefore, the error flag generation apparatus and method for error correction can be easily implemented with improved error-correction performance and be advantageous in cost.

  • Publication number: 20030012101
Abstract: An optical disc reproducing device (hereinafter referred to as a CD player) that reproduces a CD (Compact Disc) audio signal, and more particularly, an apparatus is provided, which is designed to accurately control the speed of a spindle motor by reflecting the gap between two points in a buffer where data is recorded and the recorded data is read respectively. The spindle motor speed control apparatus of the CD player which reproduces an audio signal using data reproduced by the disc and buffered on the buffer includes an EFM demodulator, a frequency error measurement unit, a buffer, a lead/lag detector and a motor control signal generator. The apparatus can dynamically control the speed at which data stored on the disc is read more easily and reliably by controlling the spindle motor speed.

  • Patent number: 6347183
Abstract: A video record/playback apparatus for reproducing a video recording medium containing a videogram performs a playback operation of the video recording medium, based on comparison of a program rating corresponding to the videogram and a user rating code determined by a user. In this video record/playback apparatus, a key input unit is used for inputting at least one user rating code and a program rating code corresponding to the videogram. A recording/reproduction unit records the input program rating code on the video recording medium and reproduces the video recording medium. A rating code insertion/separation unit inserts the program rating code into the videogram to be recorded on the video recording medium and separates the program rating code from the video signal supplied from the recording/reproduction unit. A storage unit stores the input at least one user rating code.

  • Patent number: 6295093
Abstract: A closed-caption broadcasting and receiving method and apparatus. According to the closed-caption broadcasting method and apparatus, character information and control information are inputted, and a control code of 2 words and a character code of 2 words including a syllable character completion type code are produced. The control code is obtained by combining the control information with a mode control bit and a parity bit, and the character code is obtained by combining the character information with a mode control bit and a parity bit. A digital-modulated caption signal is produced by inputting the control code and the character code, and is coded on a scanning line which does not affect a television video signal to be transmitted.

  • Patent number: 6208383
Abstract: A soft scrolling method and apparatus of closed-caption words whereby caption information which is encoded in a horizontal line of each field of a television broadcasting signal which does not affect the broadcasting signal is displayed on a display screen of a receiver, as being scrolled line by line by selection of a viewer. According to the method, whether or not the present mode is a soft scroll mode is discriminated, and if so, character data is read out from a display memory, in which decoded caption information is stored, for a line or several lines at predetermined intervals into which a one-row scrolling time is equally divided. The readout character data is converted into a video signal to be displayed on the display screen.
