  • Patent number: 11277019
Abstract: An energy harvesting apparatus, system, and method are provided to perform energy harvesting and estimation of ambient energy intensity. The energy harvesting apparatus includes an energy converter, an energy storage, an output voltage/current detector, and a switch. The energy converter receives ambient energy, converts the ambient energy into DC power having a DC voltage and a DC current, and outputs the DC power. The energy storage receives and stores the DC power. The output voltage/current detector has a constant load value and detects at least one of the DC voltage and the DC current, outputted from the energy converter, to be used for estimating intensity of the ambient energy. The switch selectively connects the energy converter to the energy storage or the output voltage/current detector.

  • Patent number: 11246096
Abstract: The present disclosure provides communications apparatus and method using an On-off keying (OOK) modulation based low power wake-up protocol suitable for use in IoT devices. The communication method according to an exemplary embodiment includes: transmitting, by a main radio module of a master device, an OOK modulated wake-up radio signal by using a narrow frequency band between an ISM band and a guard band in the ISM band; receiving, by a low power wake-up radio module of a slave device, the wake-up radio signal and to demodulate according to an OOK modulation scheme and awaken a controller of the slave device in a sleep mode; and after the controller wakes up from the sleep mode, transmitting data to be transmitted to the master device, by the controller of the slave device, through the main radio module.

  • Publication number: 20210218352
Abstract: An energy harvesting system includes a plurality of energy converters connected to multiple ambient energy sources, respectively, receiving energy from the multiple ambient energy sources, and converting the received energy into electrical energy. The system also includes an electrical energy buffer receiving and collecting electrical energy from the energy converters, and combining the collected electrical energy to have a predetermined power level and a constant voltage converter receiving the combined electrical energy from the electrical energy buffer, and converting the received electrical energy into driving power of a power level usable by a load. The system further includes an electrical energy storage receiving the driving power from the constant voltage converter, storing the received driving power, and providing the stored driving power to the load.

  • Publication number: 20210104917
Abstract: An energy harvesting system, apparatus, and method are provided to perform wakeup for a function-performing module while minimizing power consumption. The energy harvesting apparatus performs energy harvesting through a harvesting/wakeup module by receiving RF signals from air when the function-performing module is in a power-off state. If any RF signal containing wakeup information is detected during the energy harvesting, the energy harvesting apparatus wakes up the function-performing module being in the power-off state.
