  • Publication number: 20040205477
Abstract: A system for generating a data object of a recording of a real-time slide presentation is described. The data object includes a plurality of synchronized overlaid replayable bitstreams including at least a bitstream corresponding to an image of each of a plurality of slides of the slide presentation, a bitstream corresponding to symbolic representations of presenter's interactions with points of interest within each slide, and a bitstream corresponding to a presenter's audio associated with each slide. The system generates the bitstream corresponding to the symbolic representation of the presenter's interactions from captured image data of the real-time presentation by identifying points of interest of located objects in front of the display area and assigning symbols to each point of interest. The symbolic representation bitstream is then synchronized with a corresponding audio bitstream and the slide image data of the presentation.

  • Publication number: 20040001043
Abstract: A system, method, and apparatus are described in which a light point projected on a computer controlled displayed image is detected. A light point is projected at the displayed image at essentially the same time as a notification signal is transmitted indicating that the light point is being projected. At least one of image capture and image display parameters are adjusted to increase the detectability of the light point within a predetermined time interval after receipt of the notification signal. The image of the displayed image and the light point are captured within the predetermined time interval and the captured image data is analyzed to detect the light point dependent on the adjusted parameters.

  • Publication number: 20030202004
Abstract: A technique of implementing a distributed real-time slide presentation environment for facilitating low bit rate bi-directional classroom participation is described. Initially, a real-time slide presentation is presented using a computer controlled display and is captured. The captured data is used to generate synchronized overlayed replayable bitstreams including at least a bitstream corresponding to symbolic representations of a presenter's interaction with each slide captured during the presentation. The bitstream is transmitted to at least one viewing location having the capability to play the bitstream during the real-time presentation. A low bit rate digital signal having a corresponding displayable visual representation can be transmitted from the viewing location to the presentation location.

  • Patent number: 6546135
Abstract: A method for generating a representation of multimedia content by first segmenting the multimedia content spatially and temporally to extract objects. Feature extraction is applied to the objects to produce semantic and syntactic attributes, relations, and a containment set of content entities. The content entities are coded to produce directed acyclic graphs of the content entities, where each directed acyclic graph represents a particular interpretation of the multimedia content.

  • Patent number: 6542087
Abstract: A system and method of identifying a point of interest of an object located in front of a computer controlled display area captured by an image capture device is performed by capturing an image of the display area within the capture area of the image capture device. Pixels within the captured data are identified that correspond to the object within the display area and to the peripheral boundary of the display area within the capture area. Pixels are identified and stored that correspond to the common subset of the object pixels and the peripheral boundary pixels. A search is performed using the common pixels and the object pixels to determine a pixel corresponding to the point of interest of the object in the display area within the capture area.

  • Publication number: 20020136455
Abstract: System and method of locating objects positioned in front of a user interactive, computer controlled display area performed by calibrating the system to obtain a coordinate location mapping function and an intensity mapping function between the display area and the captured display area in the capture area of an image capture device. Once calibrated, objects can be located during real-time system operation by converting display area image data using the mapping functions to obtain expected captured display area data, capturing the display area image to obtain actual captured display area data, and comparing the expected and actual data to determine the location of objects in front of the display area in the capture area.

  • Patent number: 6400846
Abstract: A method determines a surface of an object in a sequence of images. The method begins by estimating a boundary of the object in each image of the sequence using motion information of adjacent images of the sequence. Then, portions of each image of the sequence are ordered to produce an ordered sequence of images. The ordered portions are exterior to the estimated object boundary. Edges in each ordered image are filtered using the motion information, and each ordered image of the sequence is searched to locate the filtered edges to form a new boundary outside the estimated boundary. The filtering and searching are repeated, while projecting the new object boundaries over the sequence of images, until the new object boundaries converges to a surface of the object.

  • Patent number: 6307964
Abstract: A method represents a shape of an object in an image. Portions of the image interior to a boundary of the object are ordered. A medial axis for the ordered portions of the image is derived. The medial axis is segmented to produce an ordered tree. The ordered tree is transformed to a partial ordered tree to represent the shape of the object.

  • Patent number: 6266443
Abstract: A method detects a boundary in a sequence of two-dimensional images where each image has multiple intensity value points. Filtering and motion analysis is applied on each image to produce motion enhanced images. Initial search parameters are determined from a dynamic snake model applied to the motion enhanced images. Each motion enhanced image is searched for a potential boundary using the search parameters. The potential boundary is projected into the motion enhanced image of a previous, current, and next image, and the search parameters of the previous, current, and next images are updated. The searching, projecting, and updating repeat until a predetermined level of convergence is reached.
