    Abstract: A method, system, and computer product are provided for efficiently and accurately searching and retrieving trademark images based upon a query image. In one embodiment, a method for content based search and retrieval of trademark images includes extracting color features from a plurality of trademark images by generating, with a processor, a 64-bin color histogram for each trademark image using 6-bit color data for each pixel of the trademark image. The 6-bit color data includes 2 bits from each of a red, green, and blue channel for each pixel of the trademark image. The method further includes extracting shape features from a plurality of trademark images by generating, with the processor, a 9-bin orientation histogram for each trademark image using weighted orientation angle data for each pixel of the trademark image. The method further includes generating, by the processor, a distance similarity measure between the color histograms and the orientation histograms of two trademark images.
