  • Patent number: 7568320
Abstract: The present invention relates to a wall reinforcement system, in particular for tying a veneer wall (21) to a back up wall (22). The system can protect a building against adverse seismic or wind loading conditions. A helical wall tie (1) is driven into a back-up wall (22) using a percussion tool. A connector (10) is then placed over the end of the wall tie, the connector engaging with the helical fins to prevent its removal without unscrewing the connector (10). A reinforcement wire (20), which preferably extends around a building, is then threaded through a hole in the connector to lock the rotation of the connector (10). The reinforcement wire is used to link a series of connectors together. The wire is then encased in mortar (24) within the bed joint between two courses of bricks. In preferred embodiments, more than two reinforcement wires extend in parallel along the bed joint.

  • Publication number: 20050159393
Abstract: Novel compounds of the formula I are described: wherein: R1=(CH2)mCH3 where m is 0 or an integer in the range from 1 to 16, or an alkenyl, alkynyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, or alkyl sulfinyl group having from 2 to 17 carbon atoms, R2=H, CH3 or CH2CH3 R3=H or CH3 R4=H or CH3 R5=lower alkyl having from 1 to 5 carbon atoms n is an integer in the range from 1 to 3, and X is carboxyl (COOH) or carbalkoxy (COOR5), cyano (C?N), phosphonic acid (PO3H2), phosphonate ester (PO3[R5]2) or 5-tetrazole, and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. Preferably, the compounds are optically pure enantiomers of the R- or S-configuration in which R3=R4=R5=H, R2=CH3 and R1 is a saturated aliphatic chain of one to five carbon atoms. The compounds are useful as cellular rescue agents.

  • Patent number: 5586605
Abstract: A cavity wall which is usually made with a hollow concrete block as the inner wythe and brick as the outer wythe is disclosed. A special purpose insertion tool is fitted to a standard hammer tool. A center pin is provided in the insertion tool made with an indent to match the pointed end of the tie. The pin is then pressed into the SDS fitting which is the connection into the drill. The tie end is supported by a short sleeve which, when it contacts the face of the wall, retracts against a spring until the tie driving is completed. A modified embodiment of the adapter recognizes that the tie when activated by the hammer invariably rotates clockwise. Accordingly, if the spring is wound clockwise, the bottom tail end will dig into its seat. On the other hand, if it is wound counterclockwise, it rotates in a "tail skid" relationship to the seat.
