Patent number: 6052889Abstract: A radio frequency antenna is fabricated by first injection molding a group of broadband radio frequency radiating elements from a polymeric material, metallizing each broadband radio frequency radiating element, and installing a transmission line within each broadband radio frequency radiating element. A support structure is prepared by injection molding at least one, and preferably multiple, flat support plates, and metallizing each plate. A pattern of electrical connectors is formed on the plates. A forward plate has a group of attachment locations thereon, and, collectively, the pattern of electrical conductors provide an electrical feed to each of the attachment locations. A broadband radio frequency radiating element is affixed, preferably by ultrasonic welding, to each of the plurality of attachment locations, with the transmission line of each broadband radio frequency radiating element in electrical communication with the electrical conductor extending to the respective attachment location.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1996Date of Patent: April 25, 2000Assignee: Raytheon CompanyInventors: I-Ping Yu, Raymond C. Patent number: 5990849Abstract: An antenna is provided that receives electromagnetic radiation and includes a dielectric substrate (106). First and second spirals (60 and 70) on a first surface of the substrate (106) radiate the electromagnetic radiation. A third spiral (80) is utilized on a second surface of the substrate (106) and is substantially underneath one of the first and second spiras(60 and 70). The resulting spiral antenna is compact and has multioctave bandwidth capability.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 1998Date of Patent: November 23, 1999Assignee: Raytheon CompanyInventors: Gary Salvail, Michael S. Patent number: 5936594Abstract: A multiple frequency band, multi-spiral antenna that employs filters to pass the band of one spiral and reject the band of the other spirals. Additional isolation is achieved by arranging adjacent spirals to have opposite senses. All the isolation and filtering is accomplished within the body of the antenna. The antenna includes two, two-arm spirals. The higher frequency spiral resides in the interior of the lower frequency spiral. The two spirals are concentric about each other, and lie on the same plane. A balun and filter circuit is connected to the two spirals, and is disposed within the antenna body.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 1997Date of Patent: August 10, 1999Assignee: Raytheon CompanyInventors: I-Ping Yu, Gary Salvail

Patent number: 5619218Abstract: An antenna comprising a substrate, and low band and high band opposite sense spiral antennas formed on the substrate to provide for a common aperture isolated dual frequency band antenna. The high band spiral antenna is formed adjacent the center of the substrate while the low band spiral antenna is formed adjacent the periphery of the substrate. The high frequency end of the low band antenna is truncated at the low frequency end of the high band antenna, and the low frequency end of the high frequency antenna is truncated at the high frequency end of the low band antenna 21 to provide for mutual isolation between the frequency bands.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1995Date of Patent: April 8, 1997Assignee: Hughes Missile Systems CompanyInventors: Gary Salvail, I-Ping Yu

Patent number: 5389941Abstract: An antenna employs the back radiation of a crossed-dipole to illuminate a parabolic cylindrical reflector. The crossed dipole is supported by a feed network mast which simplifies the feed network and eliminates the need for other supporting structure and its electrical blockage. To form an antenna system having omni-directional radiation coverage, four of these antennas are located at the four quadrants, each covering one quadrant in the azimuth direction. The RF signal is fed through a single pole four throw switch to the selected antenna to be radiated to the desired direction.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 1992Date of Patent: February 14, 1995Assignee: Hughes Aircraft CompanyInventor: I-Ping Yu

Patent number: 5118050Abstract: In a weapon system 10 incorporating a target position sensor (14), an information system (16), a power source (22), a launcher (20), and an airborne vehicle (18), a launcher control system (12) which incorporates a communications interface (26) for coupling the information system (16) and the target position sensor (14) to a launcher (20) and an airborne vehicle (18). The communications interface (26) receives target position information and launch and control orders and provides launcher and airborne vehicle status. A airborne vehicle interface (28) couples the launcher (20) and the airborne vehicle (18) to the information system (16) and a power source (22). A transmitter (30) communicates updated target position information to the airborne vehicle after launch. A power control unit (32) converts and regulates power from different power sources (22) to be used by the launcher control system (12).Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1990Date of Patent: June 2, 1992Assignee: Hughes Aircraft CompanyInventors: Keith P. Patent number: 4577196Abstract: A generally rectangular waveguide antenna has two narrow side walls connected to two broad walls. One of the broad walls takes the form of a conventional rectangular ridged wall. The other broad wall is curved with the arc of the curve extending substantially the full width of the wall. The antenna has an open end and a closed end. The end of the curved broad wall extends beyond the end of the rectangular ridge wall at the open end of the antenna. The two narrow sidewalls are cut at an angle, at the open end, to join the shorter ridged wall and the extended curved wall.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 1983Date of Patent: March 18, 1986Assignee: Hughes Aircraft CompanyInventor: I-Ping Yu

Patent number: 4218682Abstract: Disclosed is a multiple band antenna assembly for communicating electromagnetic radiation. An antenna element stack is constructed of a plurality of elliptical lamina antenna elements mutually separated by layers of dielectric material, and separated from a ground plane by dielectric material. The antenna assembly is coupled through a feed line in contact with the top antenna element. A conductor joins the remaining antenna elements to the ground plane. Each individual antenna element is operable for communication reception and transmission within a frequency band determined by the size of the particular antenna element. The antenna elements are arranged in order of decreasing size with the largest antenna element closest to the ground plane. The sizes of the antenna elements may be selected to provide electromagnetic radiation communication over several distinct frequency bands, or to connect the individual bands into a broad band.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1979Date of Patent: August 19, 1980Inventors: Robert A.
