  • Patent number: 6569057
Abstract: A motor vehicle transmission system blocks the disengagement of the clutch (14) and the shifting of the transmission (12) into neutral for starting the engine (10), if the transmission is already in gear at the time the system is switched on. The blocking is canceled if the main brake (58) is applied and the application of the brake (58) is confirmed by a brake sensor (56), or if the driver moves a shifter element (24) from a non-neutral shift-gate position to the neutral shift-gate position after the system has been turned on.

  • Publication number: 20010013066
Abstract: A system and method of optimizing route selection of a communication connection over diverse media are described. The diverse media include but are not limited to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), a Wide Area Network (WAN), a Virtual Private Network (VPN), and satellite transmission. A desktop such as a computer is associated with one or more end system terminals. The desktop stores tables which identify the selection of available media and optimization factors associated with each. Set up and tear down protocols for each media are also stored by the desktop. Tables containing routing preferences for each media is also maintained at the desktop. Upon connection initiation the available media is evaluated for optimum service in relation to a callers set of preferences. A reroute of the connection after initiation can be implemented if a preferred route becomes available.

  • Patent number: 5902211
Abstract: A clutch control system for the automatic control of a motor vehicle clutch which connects an engine with a gearbox under the control of a driver operated gear ratio selector lever. The control system controls both initial clutch take-up on starting of the vehicle, clutch re-engagement following each ratio change, clutch disengagement on movement of the gear selector lever to change the operative ratio of the gearbox, and clutch disengagement on the coming to rest of the vehicle. The clutch control system also warns the driver if he attempts to drive away in a designated non take-up gear or in any gear in a predetermined abusive manner and may be arranged to promote rapid engagement or disengagement of the clutch in certain abusive conditions to reduce energy generation in the clutch.

  • Patent number: 5764728
Abstract: A method of silent monitoring in a telephone system by a monitor comprising storing in a first table in a memory, correspondence between an agent identifier and a telephone set directory number used by the agent, requesting silent monitoring of the agent using the identifier, checking the table to determine the directory number of the telephone set corresponding to the agent, creating and storing a record containing the directory number, an identifier of the monitor and the agent identifier, in the event a telephone call is in process using the telephone set, conferencing a telephone set used by the monitor with the telephone set used by the agent, using a one way audio path toward the telephone set used by the monitor, in the event the telephone call in process clears, maintaining the record until the telephone set used by the monitor has gone on-hook, and continuing to monitor subsequent calls involving the telephone set used by the agent prior to the telephone set used by the monitor going on-hook, maintai

  • Patent number: 5385619
Abstract: Nitrocellulose propellant compositions are provided comprising as ballistic modifier a copper II complex of a C.sub.6 -C.sub.12 chain aliphatic carboxylic acid, advantageously in conjunction with one or more conventional ballistic modifiers for example, lead or copper compounds such as lead stearate, lead acetophthalate, lead .beta.-resorcylate and basic copper salicylate. The preferred complex is copper II caproate. The propellant compositions exhibit good quality plateau or mesa burning over a useful pressure range for a wide range of energy and burning rates. The copper II complexes are especially advantageous in cast double base propellants particularly because their solubility in the organic solvents used facilitates their incorporation into these compositions.

  • Patent number: 4053234
Abstract: For detecting changes of level of a moving surface, a sharply defined light pattern is directed on to the surface and an image of the pattern is formed on a multiple photodiode strip so that a predetermined point of reference of the image is variably located on the strip depending on variation in level of the surface, the photodiode strip is repetitively scanned to create a voltage waveform repetitively defining the variable position of the point of reference on the image in relation to the fixed position of a point of reference on the photodiode strip, and the waveform is analysed to determine the variations in level of the moving surface.
