  • Publication number: 20070193373
Abstract: A method of sampling a multi-phase fluid stream is provided which comprises the steps of: sampling, with a sampling probe, a portion of the fluid stream; measuring the flow rate of said sampled portion; and measuring, independently of the sampling step, the total flow rate of the fluid stream, wherein the flow rate of the sampled portion is controlled according to the ratio of the flow rate of the sampled portion to the flow rate of the fluid stream, in order to obtain substantially isokinetic sampling of the fluid stream. The method may provide isokinetic sampling to an accuracy of 5% or less and preferably only samples a small portion of the fluid stream. The method has particular application for high rate condensate gas wells. A corresponding sampling system is provided which has particular application in the sampling of streams from well-heads.

  • Publication number: 20070175641
Abstract: A downhole apparatus and method for maintaining or reducing the level of liquids at the bottom of a gas producing well is described including a constriction or throat section, such as a Venturi, in which a production gas flow from the well is used to generate a low pressure zone having a pressure less that the ambient formation gas pressure and at least one conduit providing a flow path from an liquids at the bottom of said well to said low pressure zone. The conduit may be adaptable in length to provide for maintaining the flow path as the level of the liquids changes.

  • Publication number: 20070144268
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for identifying changes in composition in a flow containing an oil/hydrocarbon gas fluid mixture, including a measurement of the respective holdups of any two of the gas, oil and water; and measurements to determine attenuation or scattering of high energy photons passing through the mixture; and combining holdup measurements and attenuation or scattering measurements to detect the presence or concentration of a hetero-component in the mixture.

  • Publication number: 20070126594
Abstract: A telemetry apparatus and method for communicating data from a down-hole location through a borehole to the surface is described including a light source, an optical fiber being placed along the length of the wellbore and receiving light from the light source, a transducer located such as to produce a force field (e.g. a magnetic field) across the optical fiber and its protective hull without mechanical penetration of the hull at the down-hole location, one or more sensors for measuring down-hole conditions and/or parameters, a controller to provide a modulated signal to the magnetic field generator, said modulated signal being under operating conditions representative of measurements by the one or more sensors, and an optical detector adapted to detect changes in the light intensity or polarization of light passing through the fiber.

  • Publication number: 20070117572
Abstract: A method for locating and tracking devices in a mobile telephone network compries the steps of (a) receiving mobile telephone control parameters in a subscriber database; and (b) using one or more location parameter databases (LPDBs), each mapping control parameters to a geographic location and returning a location result when queried. One or more filters is applied to the control parameters that is received by the subscriber database, each filter selectively initiating processing using a LPDB appropriate to the task of the filter and to the current state of the device.

  • Publication number: 20070118281
Abstract: A navigation device displays a route superimposed on a road map, together with one or more symbols each indicating a location for which audio or visual traffic information exists, each symbol being selectable to play back the audio or visual information. Visual traffic information can be from a fixed traffic camera; a driver can hence rapidly view a video feed or still image from a traffic camera to allow him to assess the traffic conditions.

  • Publication number: 20070106465
Abstract: The present invention combines the geographical coverage possible with fixed, pre-defined route segment costs (e.g. the legal speed limit) with, wherever possible, richer time dependent costs. A user of, for example, a portable navigation device, can therefore continue route planning as before to virtually any destination in a country covered by the stored map database, but wherever possible, can also use traffic data with time-dependent costs, so that the effect of congestion with any time predictability can be accurately taken into account as an automatic, background process. It leaves the user to simply carry on driving, following the guidance offered by the navigation device, without needing to be concerned about congestion that exists now, and whether it will impact his journey.

  • Patent number: 6823302
Abstract: A method for providing real-time perceptual quality measurements of an audio signal (12) in which a quality test signal, including an audio test signal, is received by equipment under test. Playback of a pre-stored representation of the audio signal is coarsely synchronized (20) to the received audio test signal, for example, utilizing a synchronizing pulse in a header of the quality test signal. The playback is then finely synchronized (24) to the received audio signal, for example, by comparing data in a windowed portion of the received audio test signal and a windowed portion of the pre-stored representation of the audio test signal and by adjusting a windowed portion of the pre-stored representation of the audio test signal in accordance with results of the comparison. A window of the received audio test singal is then compared (14) to a portion of the finely synchronized play back of the pre-stored representation of the audio test signal to output a quality measurement of the received audio test signal.
