    Abstract: A range of novel biodegradable aqueous acid cleaning systems for removing limescale from surfaces, especially stainless steel and porcelain surfaces, wherein said system comprises a biodegradable aqueous acid system, said system having a pH of less than 7.0, said system comprising at least one of the following acids: i) iminodiacetic acid; ii) aspartic acid; iii) derivatives selected from N-alkyl, N-alkylaryl and N-cycloaliphatic derivatives of iminodiacetic acid; iv) derivatives selected from N-alkyl, N-alkylaryl and N-cycloaliphatic derivatives of aspartic acid; and v) C2-C10 polycarboxylic acids, said polycarboxylic acids containing a heteroatom in the main chain thereof, said heteroatom being selected from S, O and N; said system optionally comprising mixtures of said acids (i) to (v). The composition preferably comprises a surfactant to optimize the performance of said acid. Additional optional ingredients are selected from thickeners and co-builders and enzyme mixtures.

It has an ester solvent with a Hansen solubility parameter in the range of 9.5 to 11 which is present in amount of 3.0% to 7.2% by weight based on the total weight of the composition. There is also a surfactant system in an amount of 3.5% to 7.5% by weight of active material based on the total weight of the composition. The system has a natural soap and a nonionic surfactant; an abrasive in an amount of 0.5% to 4.0% by weight based on total weight of the composition; and at least 70% by weight of water based on total weight of the composition. Methods of using and preparing the composition are also described.

    Abstract: A method for determining the stability of live foam comprises a sample pressurizing vessel connected to a sample injection chamber leading to a sample cell linked to a reference cell maintained at constant pressure. The link between the sample cell and the reference cell comprises a link fitted with a valve for initially equalizing the pressure between the two and subsequently isolating them. A differential pressure transducer is provided for determining the subsequent change in pressure of the sample with reference to the reference cell as the foam collapses.
