  • Method and apparatus for a variable packet rate modem or facsimile communication over a packet switched network

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for optimizing bandwidth while sending modulated signals over packet switched networks. Variable packet rates provide the benefit of reduced overhead where allowed and adherence to timing requirements where needed. Certain or all high speed modulated data in a modem communication can be sent at a slower packet rate over a packet switched network, which in turn reduces the percentage of overhead per data where beneficial.
