  • Patent number: 5546276
Abstract: A housing designed to accommodate a plurality of removable electrical devices includes power connectors mounted within the housing for connecting a power source to each of the devices. In order to prevent a user from inadvertently contacting live connectors within the housing, the housing is provided with one or more safety elements e.g., in the form of fins fixed in the cavity which are positioned to lie between adjacent devices. The position, size and location of the pins are strategically chosen to prevent access to the connector(s). The position of the fins between the devices allows the user access to the devices to load and unload them into and from the housing.

  • Patent number: 5412534
Abstract: A modular housing for first and second groups of replaceable functional units, e.g., disk files comprises a chassis for supporting the units within a first compartment extending along the length of a chassis support structure and removable via opposite openings in the chassis. Replaceable cooling and power supply assemblies are located within a second compartment of the drawer and can be removed from drawer via one of the openings without removing either of the groups of functional units. The fan of a combined cooling and power supply unit is arranged centrally within the second compartment such that it draws cooling air past the first group of units and exhausts air towards the second group of units.

  • Patent number: 5309323
Abstract: A removable electrical unit 20 is described which incorporates a soft stop and releasing mechanism which is employed to prevent removal of the unit from its housing in an unsafe manner. In operation, the unit is pulled from the housing by means of a front handle 22 on the unit and when the unit is partially removed from its housing a stop block 72 on the unit engages a stop spring 90 on the housing. A second handle 30 on the top of the unit becomes accessible and is actuated to disengage the stop block and stop spring. The unit may then be completely removed from the housing in a safe two handed manner.

  • Patent number: 5224020
Abstract: Modular electrical apparatus is provided which comprises a plurality of customer removable electrical devices 22 inserted in one end of a drawer type tubular chassis 10 and various field replaceable support units 44,46 mounted at the other end of the chassis. The devices and support units are all blind pluggable into a removable central electrical distribution unit which includes complementary connectors 52,54,56 on opposite sides and a set of electrical conductors for connecting the devices and units. Internal electrical connection of all the units in the drawer is via the electrical distribution unit and external electrical connection is made only to the outer end of the support units. Cooling fans for inducing an air flow through the tubular chassis to cool the devices and support units are mounted in the central electrical distribution unit. All the components can be removed for repair or replacement from either the front or rear entrance of the tubular chassis.

  • Patent number: 4640485
Abstract: An adjustable support for a display monitor includes a turntable to allow swivelling and carrying a pair of support tubes on which is mounted a slidable support beam. A carrier having cylindrical bearing surfaces co-operates with skid-pads on the support beam. By sliding the carrier with respect to the support beam the angle of the carrier and hence the angle of the display screen can be varied. A non-magnetic gas strut located in one of the support tubes compensates for the weight of the monitor/carrier assembly. The force exerted by the gas strut is shared between the support tubes by means of a pair of coupled rack and pinions which also allow convenient height adjustment of the support beam, carrier and display monitor.

  • Patent number: 4591120
Abstract: A tiltable and/or rotatable support for a display device which includes a locking mechanism 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 operable to lock the support in a selected tilt position while still permitting swivel adjustment. The support may be provided as a stand-alone unit or formed integral with the base of the display device.

  • Patent number: 4591123
Abstract: A tiltable and/or rotatable support for a display device includes a cam operated locking mechanism operable to positively clamp the support in a selected swivel and/or tilt position and limiting the amount of tilt and swivel to predetermined amounts. The locking mechanism is operated by means of a lever extending through a horizontal slot in the base and is adjustable to compensate for axial tolerance build-up which could otherwise lead to malfunction. The support may be provided as a stand-alone unit or formed integral with the base of the display device.

  • Patent number: 4545650
Abstract: A liquid-filled electro-optic display cell employs an elastomeric diaphragm to seal a filling orifice in the cell side wall. The orifice is surrounded by a rim and the diaphragm is retained over the rim in such a way as to seal the orifice while remaining free to flex over central portions of the orifice. This retention may be effected by means of an annular washer and clamping pin. In this way, sealing is effected and thermal expansion accommodated. The cell is filled by turning it until the orifice is uppermost and filling it until a convex meniscus is formed above the rim to ensure that the diaphragm seals the orifice without introduction of bubbles.
