  • Patent number: 7685509
Abstract: In many situations, the objective of data entry is to obtain a complex or structured value. This has traditionally been accomplished by providing a discrete entry field for each element of data entry. By extending the notion of an entry filter, and introducing the notion of a discrete editable element within an entry field, it is possible to apply a structure to that entry field. A management component enables one or more entry filters to be associated in turn with each editable element, and ensures that the entry filters are applied correctly to the appropriate elements.

  • Patent number: 6594588
Abstract: A system and method for handling laboratory information includes a graphical user interface with a plurality of windows. A palette of icons is provided in a first one of the windows, each icon representing a predetermined task to be executed by a processor in communication with the graphical user interface. The processor is also in communication with a database containing static laboratory data (such as the type of sample to be analysed) as well as dynamic laboratory data (such as the name of the specific sample to be tested and the results of that test). A user can select icons from the first window and “drag and drop” them into a second window. A sequence of tasks may thus be built up, in the form of a tree structure, and when run the processor executes the sequence of tasks in turn by reference to the static and dynamic laboratory data.

  • Patent number: 4056881
Abstract: A method of manufacturing an electro-optical cell in which at least one insulating lamina of adhesive material bonded to at least one spacer element and having an opening defining the limits of the cell is introduced between two cell walls, and the walls are then heated and compressed to soften the adhesive material and seal the cell. The cell may have a spacer element in the form of a lamina of plastics material or may have a number of metallic spacer elements which provide electrical connections to conductive elements carried on a wall of the cell.
