Abstract: Chromogenic quinazolines are disclosed. These compounds are particularly suitable for use as color formers in pressure-sensitive or heat-sensitive recording materials and give lightfast yellow, orange and red colorations.

Abstract: New v-Triazolyl-[4,5-d]-pyrimidines of the formula ##STR1## wherein Q and Q.sub.1 independently of one another are a secondary or tertiary amino radicals and X, X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 are certain nonchromophoric substituents, their preparation and their use for the optical brightening of organic materials are provided.

Abstract: v-Triazolyl-[4,5-d]-pyrimidines of the formula ##STR1## wherein Q is a mono- or disubstituted amino radical, R is an optionally substituted alkyl or aryl group and the benzene ring A can carry one or two substituents. The compounds are suitable as fluorescent whitening agents for organic material of high molecular weight, especially polyamide. The compounds are obtained by starting from a 4-aminopyrimidine which is correspondingly substituted in the 2- and 6-position, coupling it with the diazonium salt of an optionally substituted aniline and oxidising the resultant azo compound to the triazolylpyrimidine.

Abstract: New triazole compounds of formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, R.sub.2 represents alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms or phenyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by halogen, alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms or alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and A represents a radical of certain compounds selected from stylbenes, 2-phenyl-4-styryl-v-triazoles, 3-phenyl-coumarines, 2-phenyl-benzoxazoles, 2-phenyl-benzimidazoles, 2-phenyl-v-triazolo[d]pyrimidine-5,7-diones and 2-biphenyl-v-triazolo[d]pyrimidine-5,7-diones, a process for their preparation as well as a process for optically brightening organic material on using said compounds are disclosed.

Abstract: A process for the manufacture of o-phenylenediacetonitrile by reacting an aqueous solution of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal cyanide with an o-xylylene halide optionally in the presence of an emulsifier is provided.
