Abstract: A wireless communications system for determining and conveying swimming metrics to swimmers and triathletes during swimming activity. The swimming metric communication system comprises a smartwatch for determining swim metrics and a head-worn device with an integrated headphone, headphone jack, or wireless headphone transmitter. The smartwatch and head-worn device utilize a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) connection to communicate voiced swim metrics to the user. For example, various voiced data segments are preloaded on the head-worn device and associated with unique low-bit codes, respectively. The BLE connection is used to transmit certain low-bit codes to trigger respective voiced data segments. A transmission connection between the smartwatch and headphone, and vice-versa, is established when the user's hand is out of the water (recovery) and/or when the hand passes near the face underwater (pull).

Abstract: A method and system for displaying investment account information mimicking outcomes of a game-of-chance on a game-of-chance graphical user interface generated by a return on investment game-of-chance interface application executed on an electronic device. The method includes initializing a session of the game-of-chance and receiving preexisting investment account information including an initial investment value, past returns on investment value, and a total preexisting investment account balance. The method includes calculating a game-of-chance result for each round of the plurality of rounds such that the game-of-chance result for each round of the plurality of rounds are amounts that converge towards a total winnings value of the session equivalent to the preexisting investment account information. The method includes displaying on the electronic device via a game-of-chance graphical user interface after each round of the plurality of rounds the game-of-chance result associated with said round.

Abstract: A method and system for revealing investment account information including past returns of one or more of the user's preexisting investments is provided. The method and system include providing a query to one or more databases to access and acquire investment account information of the user's preexisting investments. The method and system include obtaining, in response to the query, the investment account information. The method and system also include populating the investment account information to be accessed by a return on investment game-of-chance interface application. The method and system additionally include revealing the investment account information as though the past returns of one or more of the user's preexisting investments were the result of a game-of-chance played by the user on a game-of-chance user interface by operation of the return on investment game-of-chance interface application.

Abstract: A system for detecting small quantities of agent such as DNA in a larger volume of substance is disclosed. The system includes a radiation emitter arranged so as to emit radiation on to a quantity of substance containing the agent. The incident radiation excites the agent causing it to emit radiation detectable by suitable detection means. The incident and emitted radiation are directed by a light guide that also acts so as to contain the substance being monitored.

Abstract: A mirror mount includes a two-axis mirror flexure mount with increased stiffness in all but the desired degrees of freedom. The mount is an integrally formed support for a mirror and includes a rigid portion, a plurality of base portions suitable for mounting the mirror thereto, and a plurality of substantially linear flexure elements disposed between the mount portion and the base portion to connect the mount portion and the base portion together. The flexure elements each define an axis of rotation and are operable to allow the mount portion to rotate relative to the base portion along either axis of rotation.

Abstract: The disclosed device and method relate to an actuator. The actuator includes a field structure assembly having an arrangement of permanent magnets and magnetically soft components, and a moving coil assembly. The arrangement of permanent magnets includes a conical magnet and a plurality of segmented ring magnets.

Abstract: Garments may include: (a) one garment portion having an air permeability of less than 550 ft3/min per ft2; and (b) another garment portion including one or more vented zones, wherein a material forming the vented zones has an air permeability of at least 550 ft3/min per ft2. The vented zones may extend along a center back portion and/or along at least one side portion of the garment. Methods for forming such garments may include: (a) providing one garment portion having an air permeability of less than 550 ft3/min per ft2; (b) providing another garment portion including at least one vented zone, wherein a material forming the vented zone has an air permeability of at least 550 ft3/min per ft2; and (c) forming a garment structure including these garment portions. The vented zones may extend along a center back portion and/or along at least one side portion of the garment structure.

Abstract: A article of apparel for moderating the body temperature of an individual is disclosed. The apparel includes a torso region for covering at least a portion of a torso of the individual. A plurality of cavities are distributed throughout the torso region, and a plurality of thermal inserts are positioned within the cavities. The thermal inserts may be bladders that enclose a fluid. A fitting system extends at least partially around the torso region. Instructions for utilizing the article of apparel may also be included, with the instructions being permanently secured to the article of apparel.

Abstract: An abrasion resistant acrylic composition comprises at least 70% w/w of the residues of at least one polmerisable acrylic monomer, 0.2-5% w/w of a finely divided compound comprising at least one oxide selected from silicon, titanium, zirconium and aluminum oxides, and 0.2-25% w/w of at least one linking compound which is miscible with said polymerisable acrylic monomer and which is capable of bonding to the surface of the oxide compound. The acrylic composition may be thermoformed while retaining its abrasion resistant surface properties.

Abstract: A multistage core-shell particle consisting of a core, a first shell and optionally a second shell, substantially free from vinylically unsaturated compounds having at least two equally reactive double bonds, wherein: (i) the core contains a first (meth)acrylic polymer, (ii) the first shell contains a low Tg polymer comprising 0 to 25% by weight of a styrenic monomer and 75 to 100% by weight of a (meth)acrylic monomer, the (meth)acrylic monomer capable of forming a homopolymer having a glass transition temperature (Tg) in the range from −75 to −5 C, and which first shell represents more than 65% by volume of the combined volume of the core and first shell; (iii) the second shell, when present, contains a second (meth)acrylic polymer which may be the same or different from the first (meth)acrylic polymer, and (iv) the core and first shell together contain from 0.5 to 1.0% by weight of a graft-crosslinker.
