Abstract: A system for detecting small quantities of agent such as DNA in a larger volume of substance is disclosed. The system includes a radiation emitter arranged so as to emit radiation on to a quantity of substance containing the agent. The incident radiation excites the agent causing it to emit radiation detectable by suitable detection means. The incident and emitted radiation are directed by a light guide that also acts so as to contain the substance being monitored.

Abstract: A mirror mount includes a two-axis mirror flexure mount with increased stiffness in all but the desired degrees of freedom. The mount is an integrally formed support for a mirror and includes a rigid portion, a plurality of base portions suitable for mounting the mirror thereto, and a plurality of substantially linear flexure elements disposed between the mount portion and the base portion to connect the mount portion and the base portion together. The flexure elements each define an axis of rotation and are operable to allow the mount portion to rotate relative to the base portion along either axis of rotation.

Abstract: The disclosed device and method relate to an actuator. The actuator includes a field structure assembly having an arrangement of permanent magnets and magnetically soft components, and a moving coil assembly. The arrangement of permanent magnets includes a conical magnet and a plurality of segmented ring magnets.
