Patent number: 10975291Abstract: In-situ upgrading of heavy hydrocarbons includes injecting into a reservoir solvent, an asphaltene precipitant additive and optionally steam, at a ratio of solvent to heavy hydrocarbon between 0.1:1 and 20:1 under reservoir conditions. The additive has C—H, C—C and/or C—O bonds that thermally crack to generate free radicals in the vapor phase after injection. Formed downhole are a blend containing an upgraded hydrocarbon, and precipitated asphaltenes. The upgraded hydrocarbon is produced such that the precipitated asphaltenes remain in the reservoir. The upgraded hydrocarbon has a greater API gravity, lower asphaltene content, and lower viscosity than the heavy hydrocarbon. The precipitated asphaltenes are present in a higher amount than a similar blend not containing the additive.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 2018Date of Patent: April 13, 2021Assignee: CHEVRON U.S.A. Publication number: 20210014200Abstract: Techniques for assessing risk associated with firewall rules are provided. In one implementation, a method includes receiving a request for the network to apply a firewall policy rule to control traffic to a machine associated with the network, wherein the firewall policy rule comprises information that identifies a remote address from which the traffic can originate and a type of the traffic. The method further includes determining a remote address risk value representative of a first degree of security risk associated with allowing the traffic to access the machine in response to the traffic being determined to originate from the remote address; determining a traffic type risk value representative of a second degree of security risk associated with allowing the type of traffic to access the machine; and determining a total risk value based on a combination of the remote address risk value and the traffic type risk value.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 24, 2020Publication date: January 14, 2021Inventor: Ian Phillips

Publication number: 20190061073Abstract: A method of separating a lap joint assembly may include positioning a fluid emitter relative to a lap joint assembly. The lap joint assembly may include an adhesive lap joint between a first component and a second component. The method may further include emitting a cryogenic fluid stream from the fluid emitter at the adhesive lap joint. Positioning the fluid emitter and emitting the cryogenic fluid stream may include orienting the fluid emitter such that an angle between the cryogenic fluid stream and the adhesive lap joint is less than 45 degrees. The first component may be a sheath and the second component may be an airfoil body.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 25, 2017Publication date: February 28, 2019Applicant: UNITED TECHNOLOGIES CORPORATIONInventors: William Bogue, John D. Publication number: 20180370781Abstract: Embodiments of a personnel basket for attachment to a crane boom include folding sidewall sections; a rear wall connected to the sidewall sections; a front wall in pivotal connection to one of the folding sidewall sections; a floor in pivotal relation to the rear wall; and a stalk connected to the rear wall and including a boom connection. Because of the pivotal relationships, the personnel basket is moveable or foldable in a connected or assembled condition between a deployed (unfolded) state and a folded (fully collapsed) state. When in the deployed state, the folding sidewall sections are in a vertical orientation and perpendicular to the vertically oriented rear and front walls and the horizontally oriented floor. When in the folded state, the folding sidewall sections remain vertically oriented, as do the rear and front walls, but overlap and are parallel to the rear and front walls and the floor.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 21, 2017Publication date: December 27, 2018Inventors: Ian Phillips, Rowan Leehue

Patent number: 9891088Abstract: Technologies are described herein for compensating for inaccuracies in flow measurement in real-time during accumulation of usage. A pulse count indicating an amount of flow in a meter over a measurement period is read. An average flow rate through the meter for the measurement period is determined and a correction factor is looked up from a table based on the average flow rate. A total usage accumulator for the meter is then updated with the amount of flow over the measurement period based on the pulse count and the correction factor.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 2014Date of Patent: February 13, 2018Assignee: Mueller International, LLCInventors: Szabolcs Zigovszki, Ian Phillip Harvey, Francis J. Patent number: 9739125Abstract: A method is provided for producing upgraded heavy oil from a subterranean reservoir by producing a steam chamber within the reservoir by the action of steam and flowing a liquid phase additive into a near wellbore region of the steam chamber to control asphaltenes mobility within the near wellbore region. Build-up of asphaltenes, which derive from the heavy oil, in the near wellbore region has the potential of affecting heavy oil production rates from the reservoir. The additive is formulated to mobilize the asphaltenes within this region.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2015Date of Patent: August 22, 2017Assignee: CHEVRON U.S.A.
