Abstract: In a particular embodiment, a server module deployed on a server is disclosed. The server module is connected to a wireless network access node. The server module includes a database containing user information for multiple wireless devices. Each element in the database is attributable to at least one authorized wireless device and contains at least one type of data file from the following group: (i) wireless connectivity permissions, (ii) authorized wireless device identification, and (iii) authorized network access node information.

Abstract: In a particular embodiment, a wireless security system is disclosed. The wireless security system includes a client module deployed on a wireless device, a network module, and a server module. The client module is adapted to authenticate a wireless device while the wireless device is operating independently from the network module and the server module. In another embodiment, a method of distributing security policy information from a server to a mobile computing device is disclosed. The method includes authentication of a connection between the server and a gatekeeper, sending a policy package to the gatekeeper, initiating data synchronization between the mobile computing device and the gatekeeper, authenticating the mobile computing device, and sending the policy package from the gatekeeper to the mobile computing device.

Abstract: In a particular embodiment, a client module is deployed on a wireless device. The client module comprises a policy database including a list of authorized devices to which the wireless device may communicate. In another embodiment, the client module comprises a policy database including at least two user profiles on a wireless device, such as a personal profile and a business profile.

Abstract: A Central Office voicemail system permits a customer to monitor incoming calls and decide whether or not he wishes to take the call. When a call is made to a called party (customer) and the called party does not answer the phone the call is transferred to voicemail in the usual way. Additionally, a special ringing tone is applied automatically by the Central Office to the called party line. This has the effect of alerting the called party to the fact that the caller has been transferred to voicemail. The called party can then monitor the message being left simply by lifting his phone and, if he wants to talk to the caller, he simply carries out a hookswitch flash. Alternatively, with a specially adapted terminal, the called party does not even have to lift the phone to monitor the message because the special ringing tone causes his terminal to go automatically into off-hook hands-free mode.

The management software may be downloaded from a remote server to control the display and softkeys. Different techniques for achieving this download are described. In one case each subscriber terminal has a memory in which can be preloaded a list of one or more Calling Line ID numbers corresponding to the telephone number of a server(s). If a server dials the subscriber terminal the calling line ID is compared with the list and, if there is a match, the terminal immediately goes off-hook and follows the protocol for a Server Initiated Download. In an alternative case each subscriber terminal is capable of calling out to predetermined server lines to obtain the ADSI scripts. This dial out of stored telephone numbers may be done on an automatic timed basis or may be initiated by a server calling a pager embedded in the subscriber terminal.

Abstract: A system and method for displaying text and graphics is provided. A subset of character codes from a character set are reserved to be associated with remotely redefinable pixel matrix definitions. After a connection to a remote server is made, pixel definitions are downloaded either interactively or in a script. Several of the pixel matrix definitions may be combined so as to display a graphic image.

Abstract: Activities in an interactive subscriber telephone terminal including incoming and outgoing calls and including services such as Call Display are counted and stored in a memory in the terminal. The terminal may be queried by a remote server to cause the stored number to be transmitted to the remote server or billing, management or other purposes.
