  • Publication number: 20180318399
Abstract: Compositions for generating antimicrobial activity are described. The compositions comprise: a first phase; a second phase; an enzyme that is able to convert a substrate to release hydrogen peroxide; and a substance that includes a substrate for the enzyme, wherein the first phase and the second phase are immiscible. The compositions may be formulated as colloids, suspensions or emulsions, especially as creams or sprays. Methods of making the compositions are described, as well as their use for the treatment of antimicrobial infections.

  • Publication number: 20180042240
Abstract: Storage-stable compositions for generating antimicrobial activity are described. The compositions comprise an enzyme that is able to convert a substrate to release hydrogen peroxide, and an unrefined natural substance, such as a honey, that includes a substrate for the enzyme. In certain embodiments, the enzyme is a purified enzyme. In other embodiments, the substrate lacks catalase activity, and the enzyme is additional to any enzyme activity able to convert the substrate to release hydrogen peroxide that may be present in the unrefined natural substance. The storage-stable compositions do not include sufficient free water to allow the enzyme to convert the substrate. Use of the compositions to treat microbial infections and wounds is described, as well as methods for their production.

  • Publication number: 20180023217
Abstract: Fibers for generating antimicrobial activity are described. The fibers comprise an enzyme that is able to convert a substrate to release hydrogen peroxide, and an unrefined natural substance that includes a substrate for the enzyme, wherein the enzyme is additional to any enzyme activity able to convert the substrate to release hydrogen peroxide that may be present in the unrefined natural substance. In the presence of sufficient free water, the enzyme converts the substrate to release hydrogen peroxide, which is effective against a wide range of microbes. Wound dressings and compositions comprising the fibers are also described, as is use of the fibers, wound dressings and compositions, particularly for wound healing.

  • Publication number: 20170266240
Abstract: Compositions for prevention and treatment of microbial infectious, such as microbial infections that comprise a biofilm, or a microbe that is capable of forming a biofilm are described. The compositions comprise an enzyme that is able to convert a substrate to release hydrogen peroxide and a substance that includes a substrate for the enzyme. The enzyme is additional to any enzyme activity able to convert the substrate to release hydrogen peroxide that may be present in the substance. The substance may be an unrefined natural substance or a substance that includes a purified substrate for the enzyme.
