  • Patent number: 8082040
Abstract: An implantable tissue-stimulating device comprising a carrier member having a plurality of electrodes mounted thereon, and at least one signal transmitting wire extending through at least a portion of the carrier member and adapted to transmit signals through the carrier member to and/or from the electrodes. The number of wires within the carrier member is less than the number of electrodes mounted thereon.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 6, 2009
Date of Patent: December 20, 2011
    Assignee: Cochlear Limited
Inventors: Ibrahim Hanna Ibrahim, John L. Parker

  • Patent number: 7260435
Abstract: The invention provides a tuned transmitter coil for transcutaneous transmission of power and information from an external component of an auditory prosthesis to an implanted receiver. A shield is provided in order to reduce a skin-to-coil capacitance, thereby improving tuning stability of the coil from one user to the next. A shield may also be provided in order to reduce electromagnetic interference.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 22, 2002
Date of Patent: August 21, 2007
    Assignee: Cochlear Limited
    Inventor: Ibrahim Hanna Ibrahim
  • Patent number: 7225026
Abstract: An auditory prosthesis includes an implanted component and an external component. The external component includes a transmitter for transmitting electromagnetic signals to the implanted component; means for detecting electromagnetic emissions of the transmitter; and means for indicating when the electromagnetic emissions of the transmitter have been detected.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 5, 2002
Date of Patent: May 29, 2007
    Assignee: Cochlear Limited

  • Publication number: 20040049242
Abstract: The invention provides detection and indication of proper operation of a transmitter of an auditory prosthesis. During proper operation, the transmitter transmits electromagnetic signals to an implanted receiver. Electromagnetic emissions of the transmitter are detected, and an indicator such as a LED is provided on the transmitter of the prosthesis which indicates whether or not electromagnetic emissions of the transmitter have been detected.
