Abstract: A method for feeding cigarettes or filter plugs or the like to a working machine, such as a transporting machine, using a flat feeding passage with a bottom which can store and convey the cigarettes etc. in the horizontal direction, comprising introducing receiving boxes containing the cigarettes etc. into the feeding passage and moving them to a feeding station, and raising the receiving boxes at the feeding station so that the cigarettes etc. in the receiving boxes are discharged at one time. The invention discloses also an apparatus for carrying out the method.

Abstract: A cigarette filter as well as a method and apparatus for making it is disclosed. The cigarette filter is rolled in first and second plug paper and then in tip paper. The first plug paper is comparatively thin and has a smooth surface. While the second plug paper is comparatively thick and has a plurality of holes or grooves preliminarily punched on its surface. By adequately rolling the filter in the first and second plug paper, a plurality of air channels are defined on the periphery of the filter so that smoke is inhaled by a smoker as if it is enclosed by air. The smoker can enjoy its light taste without jeopardizing a sense of smoking. The filter is made by a method comprising forming a continuous filter rod by rolling filter material in the first plug paper, rolling the filter rod in the second plug paper having a plurality of holes preliminarily punched and cutting the rod in a predetermined length so that a plurality of channels reaching the suction end are formed on the second plug paper.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for supplying bar-like members such as cigarettes and filter plugs, in which a bar-like member containing box is lifted at a supplying position which supports the containing box in an inverted condition; and a pusher is operated to feed the bar-like members instead of a conventional hopper construction which stores bar-like members and allows them to drop from same, whereby the speed of the supplying operation is increased and a smooth supplying operation is assured without causing disordered orientation of the bar-like members.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for manufacturing tobacco filters are provided. Tobacco filter components are placed on a tape of wrapping paper which has a larger edge-to-edge size than the circumference of the filter components. Said tape is guided around the filter components at its first part which is adjacent one of the edges to half wrap the filter component. Paste is applied to the first part surface which faces radially outwardly and then, the tape is guided around the filter components at its second part which is adjacent the other one of the edges to lap over said paste-applied first part.
