  • Patent number: 6996630
Abstract: An integrated network gives priority to message traffic associated with a first network over message traffic associated with a second network. This arrangement allows a private network, such an emergency network, to be integrated with a public network, such as a cellular network, while preventing the cellular network traffic from blocking emergency network traffic. Lower priority connections can be preempted by higher priority connections. The integrated network can migrate a request from a first node to a neighboring node and can re-route a connection around a failed link.

  • Patent number: 6640245
Abstract: A computer network guarantees timeliness to distributed real-time applications by allowing an application to specify its timeliness requirements and by ensuring that a data source can meet the specified requirements. A reflective memory area is established by either a data source of an application. A data source maps onto this reflective memory area and writes data into it. In order to receive data from this data source, an application requests attachment to the reflective memory area to which the data source is mapped and specifies timeliness requirements. The application may specify that it needs data either periodically or upon occurrence of some condition. The application allocates buffers at its local node to receive data. The data source then establishes a data push agent thread at its local node, and a virtual channel over the computer network between the data push agent thread and the application attached to its reflective memory area.

  • Patent number: 6453372
Abstract: A data communication system includes in middleware a transmission task that transmits a message to a receiving host computer through a network, considering the transmission capability of the transmitting host computer and the receiving capability of the receiving host computer. This solves the problem in a conventional data communication system in which, if a host computer loses a token after acquiring it, operator stations and the like connected to a network are unable to send a message.

  • Publication number: 20020095367
Abstract: A system for competitively allocating video and/or audio resources of a server includes a server receiving and processing at least one of video and audio information and producing at least one output, all outputs of the server together not exceeding resources of the server in terms of at least one of a maximum frame rate, a maximum resolution, and a maximum bit rate, the server including a bid table for recording client bids and an auction thread for evaluating competing client bids with regard to resources requested and price; a network connected to the server; and a plurality of clients connectable to the network and requesting, from time-to-time, access to the at least one of video and audio information and specifying desired resources including at least one of frame rate, resolution, and bit rate, and a bid price for the resources specified, the server responding to each client request by establishing a server thread for each client for supplying requested video and/or audio information, ordering the bids

  • Patent number: 6411889
Abstract: A traffic monitoring, driver assistance, and communications system includes lane terminals arranged along a direction of travel of a highway, each lane terminal including a sensor for detecting passage of a vehicle, a communication antenna, a terminal transceiver for communicating with a passing vehicle through the communication antenna, and a network backbone linking the lane terminals to a data processor for compiling information on passing vehicles sensed. The system permits complex toll assessment on toll roads. By using a larger number of short range antennas, cellular communication is possible with a very large number of moving vehicles without increasing bandwidth because the cells are relatively small.
