    Abstract: When a program is activated, data recorded in a predetermined sector is reproduced by an error correction. When no reproduction error occurs, the data in the predetermined sector is reproduced without conducting the error correction. When reproduced data are not a predetermined pattern, it is determined that write software illegally writes dummy data to the predetermined sector, instead of the predetermined pattern, and an optical disc where the program is activated is a copied optical disc. Accordingly, a process conducted by the program is terminated. Therefore, a process realizing original functions based on the program cannot be executed.

A buffering unit temporarily stores the first data blocks read by the reading unit. A transferring unit transfers the first data blocks temporarily stored by the buffering unit to the mother system. A advancing unit causes the reading unit to read in advance second data blocks subsequent to the first data blocks in the information storage medium, the unit then causing the buffer unit to store the second data blocks. A controlling unit controls the advancing unit appropriately according to the information specified by the mother system.

    Abstract: A method for controlling an optical disk apparatus when writing information into a defective sector, by storing a management table for alternate process in a memory for control, and by writing the management table into a storage medium. When a writing operation is abnormally ended in an anomalous state and when the alternate process is consecutively repeated for a defective sector, an upper limit of times of alternate process is set. When the number of alternate processes repeated reaches a preset number, the writing is suspended. Updating of the management table for alternate process may be inhibited.
