  • Patent number: 7594836
Abstract: The present invention relates to a floating loading buoy (1) comprising a surface element (2), columns (3) connecting the surface element (2) to a submerged pontoon element (4), mooring devices (5) for securing the loading buoy (1) to the seabed (6), at least one attachment point (7) for transfer pipelines (8) from a production/processing/storage unit (9) to the loading buoy (1), mooring and transfer devices (10) for transferring fluid from the loading buoy (1) to a loading/unloading vessel (11). The surface element (2) is arranged floating in the water plane surface (12) and has a substantially rounded cross section in a substantially horizontal plane and a draught in the body of water, the columns (3) extend from the surface element (2) down to the pontoon element (4), which in a substantially horizontal plane has a substantially rounded external perimeter and a draught in the body of water.

  • Patent number: 7117810
Abstract: The invention relates to a floating platform (1) for offshore drilling or production of hydrocarbons, comprising a topsides (2) and a substructure (3) having a lower pontoon (4) and columns (5) connecting the pontoon (4) to the topsides (2). Heave motion (s1, s2) of the platform (1) causes a change in the metacentric height (GM) of the platform. To counteract this change in metacentric height, the columns (5) are so adapted that the moment of area inertia of the waterline area of the columns (5) decreases on downward heave motion (s1) and increases on upward heave motion (s2).

  • Publication number: 20030095839
Abstract: A floating platform for offshore drilling or production of hydrocarbons comprises a topsides with drilling and/or production equipment (8), and a substructure comprising a lower pontoon (3) and columns (4) connecting the pontoon (3) to the topsides (1). During its operation the platform is exposed to wave forces (9) which cause heave motion (v) and roll and pitch motion (p) of the platform. The substructure has a draught (11) which is at least 40 metres, preferably at least 50 metres and most preferred at least 60 metres, and the ratio between the distance (16) between the columns' centre axes (25), measured along a side of the substructure, and the lower substructure's draught (11) is between 1.0 and 1.5, preferably between 1.2 and 1.4 and most preferred between 1.3 and 1.35.
