  • Patent number: 10025843
Abstract: In one aspect, a method includes merging a first consistency group (CG) with a second CG on a source side of a replication system and merging a third CG with a fourth CG on the target side of the replication system. The first CG and the third CG form a first replication pair (RP) and the second CG and the fourth CG form a second RP. The merging includes changing a replication policy of the first RP to be equal to a retention policy of the second RP, waiting for the first RP and the second RP to stop data transfer, terminating replication of the first RP after the data transfer stopped, updating the first RP and second RP at the source side, updating the first RP and second RP at the target side and resuming replication using the second RP.

  • Patent number: 9934302
Abstract: Example embodiments of the present invention relate to a method, a system, and a computer program product for enabling concurrent host access at a replica site to a point in time different than a current point in time of a replication environment. The method includes performing data protection from a production site to a replica site in a replication environment and enabling concurrent host access at the replica site to a point in time different than a current point in time of the replication environment.

  • Patent number: 9740632
Abstract: In one aspect, a method includes receiving a request to write to an offset in a first logical device, determining a second logical device that wrote to the offset, the second logical device being an ancestor of the first logical device in a hierarchical tree of snapshots, determining from decedents of the second logical device in the hierarchical tree whether data in the offset of the second logical device is shadowed data or partially shadowed data, removing address-to-hash mapping for the offset of the second logical device if the data for the offset is shadowed and moving address-to-hash mapping to a single descendent of the second logical device if the data for the offset is partially shadowed.

  • Patent number: 9665305
Abstract: In one aspect, a method includes moving metadata from a memory of a first deduplication device to a disk of the first deduplication device, moving the data related to the metadata or portions of the data to a second deduplication device, deleting the data from the first deduplication device and adding a pointer to the metadata at the first deduplication device indicating where the data is in the second deduplication device.

  • Patent number: 9418131
Abstract: In one aspect, a method to synchronize volumes includes comparing a first root hash of a root hash node in a first hash tree of a first volume with a second root hash of a second root hash node in a second hash tree of a second volume, for each child node of the first root hash node, comparing a hash of the child node with a hash of a corresponding node in the second hash tree if the first root hash and the second hash are not the same, for each hash in the first hash tree that does not match the corresponding hash in the second hash tree, determining if its node is a leaf node and copying the corresponding data block of the first volume to the corresponding data block of the second volume if a node is determined to be a leaf node.

  • Patent number: 9396243
Abstract: In one aspect, a method includes sending a first short hash handle and a first identity bit associated with the first short hash handle to a replication site, determining if a second hash handle is identical to the first short hash handle, determining if a second identity bit associated with the second short hash handle at the replication is set if the second short hash handle is identical to the first short hash handle and using the second hash handle to identify the data if the second identity bit being is set. The first short hash handle is an identifier of data stored on a disk.

  • Patent number: 9378106
Abstract: In one aspect, a method includes sending a short hash handle from a production site to a replication site, the short hash handle being generated using a hash signature and being smaller than the hash signature, determining at the replication site whether the short hash handle exists at the replication, reading and sending the hash signature associated with the short hash handle if the short hash handle exists at the replication site, determining at the replication site whether the hash signature exists at the replication and emulating a write operation by associating the hash signature to an address in a second storage volume at the replication site if the hash signature exists at the replication site. The hash signature is generated using a data block from a first storage volume at the production site.

  • Patent number: 9037822
Abstract: In one aspect, a method includes receiving notification that a volume in a plurality of volumes has failed, determining a smallest consistency group with a replication trigger point designation using a hierarchical volume tree that includes the failed volume, stopping replication of volumes in a first consistency group if it is determined that the first consistency group is the smallest consistency group with a replication trigger point that includes the failed volume and stopping replication of the plurality of volumes if it is not determined which is the smallest consistency group with a replication trigger point that includes the failed volume.

  • Publication number: 20080022392
Abstract: In the establishment of a VPN tunnel, a VPN gateway is responsible for resolving user and group attribute overlaps and conflicts when more than one AAA server is accessed during authentication and authorization. An IPSec Aggregator is provided with a governing policy that anticipates such conflicts and sets out precedence rules and alternative values of attributes.
