  • Patent number: 10988134
Abstract: A method for controlling a hybrid drive system for a road vehicle provided with at least a pair of drive wheels; the hybrid drive system comprises: an internal combustion heat engine, which is designed to transmit the motion to the drive wheels and is provided with a turbocharger equipped with a turbine; a first electric machine, which is able to transmit the motion to the drive wheels; and a second electric machine, which is mechanically connected to the turbine of the turbocharger. In a possible operating mode, the internal combustion heat engine is controlled to pursue a target torque by completely opening a throttle valve, operating the second electric machine as an electric generator and the first electric machine as a motor, and varying the electric power generated by the second electric machine so as to adjust the flow rate of fresh air fed to the cylinder of the internal combustion heat engine.

  • Patent number: 10961144
Abstract: A method of providing ultrapure water from feed water containing hardness forming ions, comprising at least the steps of passing the feed water successively through: (i) providing a feed water stream containing hardness forming ions: (ii) passing the feed water stream through a reverse osmosis (RO) unit to remove at least some ionic contamination to provide a RO permeate water stream: (iii) passing the RO permeate water stream though a capacitive de-ionisation (CDI) unit to remove at least some of the ions to provide a post-CDI stream: and (iv) passing the post-CDI stream through an electrodeionisation (EDI) unit to remove at least some of the ions and carbon dioxide and to provide an ultrapure water stream for dispense or storage. In this way, the capacitive deionisation provides a wholly or substantially continuous process for removing a proportion of unwanted ions, especially the hardness forming ions, from the feed water prior to the use of electrodeionisation.

  • Patent number: 9404436
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for operating an internal combustion engine are provided. The engine has an engine block defining a cylinder accommodating a reciprocating piston coupled to rotate a crankshaft, a fuel injector for injecting fuel inside the cylinder, and a crank position sensor positioned proximal to the crankshaft. A method includes commanding the fuel injector to perform a test fuel injection with a predetermined energizing time and using the crank position sensor to determine a crankshaft acceleration signal during the test fuel injection. The crankshaft acceleration signal is filtered and a value of an amplitude of a fundamental frequency component of the filtered crankshaft acceleration signal is determined. A correction factor of the predetermined energizing time is determined based on a difference between the determined value of the amplitude and a preset value thereof. The correction factor is used to correct an energizing time of subsequent fuel injections.

  • Patent number: 8615987
Abstract: A method is provided for controlling a Diesel Emission Fluid (DEF) injected quantity in a NOx reduction system employing a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) catalyst, and a DEF injector for injecting the DEF to reach said SCR catalyst. The method includes determining a required quantity of DEF for the SCR catalyst at a given time. If the required quantity of DEF is at least equal to a threshold quantity, then a DEF injection is activated, otherwise the required quantity of DEF is stored in memory of an Electronic Control Unit (ECU). After a period, a further required quantity of DEF to be added to the required quantity is determined to determine a new required quantity of DEF. The new required quantity of DEF is continuously updated until the new required quantity of DEF is at least equal to said threshold quantity, at which point the DEF injection of the new required quantity of DEF is activated.

  • Publication number: 20120126989
Abstract: A method is provided for diagnosing a fault in a selective catalytic reduction system having an electric driven transportation device that provide a mass flow of a Diesel Exhaust Fluid into the selective catalytic reduction system. The method includes, but is not limited to applying an electric signal to the transportation device for establishing the mass flow, monitoring a parameter value of the electric signal, monitoring the mass flow provided into the selective catalytic reduction system caused by the transportation device when it is driven with the signal, determining, for the monitored mass flow, the difference between the corresponding parameter value, and a corresponding parameter value stored in a data map.

  • Publication number: 20110120092
Abstract: A method is provided for controlling fluid injected quantity in a NOx reduction system employing a SCR catalyst, and a Diesel Emission Fluid (DEF) injector for feeding the DEF into said SCR catalyst. The method includes, but is not limited to determining, for a given DEF fluid injector, a threshold quantity representative of the fluid injected quantity, the threshold quantity being the minimum injected fluid quantity that provides for a substantially linear behavior of said injector. The method also includes, but is not limited to storing such threshold quantity and determining the quantity of Diesel Emission Fluid (DEF) required by the SCR catalyst.
