  • Publication number: 20190025624
Abstract: Methods and systems for an electro-optic filter that operates in two modes-a homogeneous mode and a heterogeneous mode. The homogeneous mode maintains a relatively homogeneous shading/attenuation range across specified viewing angles in both the vertical and horizontal directions. The heterogeneous mode provides for relatively homogeneous shading/attenuation range across specified viewing angles in the horizontal direction but allows for gradual and a more varying (e.g., wider) range of shading/attenuation changes across the specified viewing angles in the vertical direction, e.g., as compared to the horizontal direction.

  • Patent number: 9263843
Abstract: The patent refers to one or more droplets of chiral liquid crystals used as point source(s) of laser light. The source is shaped as a droplet of chiral liquid crystals (1) and an active medium preferably dispersed in the liquid crystals. The source is spherical and with a size of preferably between a few nanometres and 100 micrometres. A droplet consists of chiral liquid crystals (1) that have selective reflection in the range of the active medium's emission and can be cholesteric liquid crystals, a mixture of nematic liquid crystals and a chiral dopant or any other chiral liquid-crystal phase, preferably the blue phase, the ferroelectric phase, the antiferroelectric phase, any of the ferrielectric phases or another chiral phase of a soft substance, that need not be chiral by itself.

  • Publication number: 20040062708
Abstract: A process of the synthesis of nanotubes of transition metal dichalcogenides by chemical transport with the addition of fullerences is provided to obtain nanotubes of transistion metal dichalcogenides. The nanotubes are hexagonally arranged in form of needle-like bundles. The process comprises chemical transport, in which the fullerences exist in the vapour phase. The chemical fullerences are used at conditions, in which the fullerences exist in the vapour phase. The chemical transport reaction occurs in a quartz ampoule, sealed at a pressure lower than 0.66 Pa. The temperature in the hot part of the ampoule is higher than 830° C.

  • Patent number: 5504600
Abstract: An oriented ferroelectric liquid crystal in the chiral smectic C phase with the smectic planes normal to bounding plates of a cell is interspersed with polymer which stabilizes and freezes the arrangement of the liquid crystal. The polymer which stabilizes the liquid crystal is formed by a method which includes introducing a mixture of a monomer and a ferroelectric liquid crystal between cell walls when the liquid crystal is in the isotropic phase, cooling the liquid crystal to a chiral nematic or smectic phase, and polymerizing the monomer. The cooling of the mixture can be done in the presence of a magnetic or electric field.

  • Patent number: 5040877
Abstract: The invention provides a low loss liquid crystal modulator for coloring and shaping a light beam wherein liquid crystal light modulators provide continuous variation in color and intensity output by controlled scattering; the liquid crystal light modulators comprise addressable sheets of light-wave-length size liquid crystal occlusious in a transparent matrix; the modulators employ nematic liquid crystal exhibiting positive dielectric anisotropy; the modulator is employed in varying and coloring output beams to allow for colored data or video transmission; images produced may vary in time as is required for, e.g., color television; the modulator is employed in color projectors for both data and video projection, for color printing, and for colored stage illumination. Low loss transmission of the modulators provides for bright images which can be viewed under high ambient illumination.

  • Patent number: 4741600
Abstract: In a LC matrix display with an internal reflector and an internal measuring reticle metal electrodes made of chromium, nickel, aluminum or some other metal are used as the internal reflector. By a special configuration of electrodes it is achieved that the measuring reticle is formed in the LC layer itself as a consequence of the optical effects in the liquid crystal. By building in an internal reflector and an internal measuring reticle any parallax is removed when observing the signal curve as well as the measuring reticle and, additionally, a maximum viewing angle is assured.
