  • Publication number: 20180109659
Abstract: An electronic device having liquid-resistant modifications that prevent liquid ingress into an opening (or openings) in an enclosure of the electronic device is disclosed. For example, the electronic device may include a coating formed from a liquid-resistant material that is applied internally to the enclosure. The electronic device may further include a frame that carries a protective transparent layer designed to cover a display assembly. In order to secure the frame with the enclosure, the electronic device may include an adhesive assembly disposed over an outer perimeter of the coating. The adhesive assembly may include several adhesive parts initially separate from one another. However, with the adhesive parts between the frame and the enclosure, the adhesive parts can be compressed by the frame and the enclosure, causing the adhesive parts to expand and engage each other. As a result, the coating and the adhesive parts provide a seal against liquid.

  • Publication number: 20180110143
Abstract: An electronic device having several modifications designed to prevent liquid ingress into an opening (or openings) of the electronic device is disclosed. For example, the electronic device includes a SIM tray having a sealing element designed to provide a seal at an opening that receives the SIM tray. The sealing element may include a first section and a second section extending from the first section, with the first section designed to bend with respect to (and in some cases collapse onto) the second section. The electronic device may further include an audio module fitted with a sealing element. The sealing element may include extensions extending away from a main body of the sealing element, with some extension designed to engage the audio module, and other extensions designed to engage an audio module interface. The sealing element provides a seal against liquid ingress into the audio module.

  • Patent number: 9939672
Abstract: An electronic device may have a housing in which components are mounted that produce heat. The heat producing components may be light-emitting diodes mounted on a flexible printed circuit in a display backlight, may be integrated circuits, or may be other devices that generate heat during operation. A heat spreading layer such as a layer of graphite may be attached to the backlight unit or other structures in the electronic device using adhesive. The adhesive may be patterned to form an unbonded area between at least some of the backlight unit or other structures to which the heat spreading layer is being attached and the heat spreading layer. The heat spreading layer may be mounted adjacent to a housing structure such as a metal midplate member that is attached to housing walls in the housing.

  • Publication number: 20170078572
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention include devices, systems and methods for using or manufacturing a camera enclosure or mobile device that includes a thermally conductive camera module, such as having a minimum thermal conductivity of 200 watts per meter Kelvin (W/mK), that enhances heat transfer between a stiffener and cap of the enclosure. This allows heat produced by the camera to be conducted forward, away from the bottom of the stiffener, through the stiffener, and to the top of can so that the bottom of the stiffener does not heat to a high temperature, components of the device or an outer surface of a cover of the device near the bottom of the stiffener. This substantially increases the time before or avoids having the temperature of outer surface reach a high temperature, such as one that will be uncomfortable to the user. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

  • Patent number: 8905566
Abstract: A flat-panel display (such as a liquid crystal display) includes one or more features that reduce temperature changes in an array of light valves disposed on a substrate. In particular, heat generated in a light source and/or electronics is conducted away from the light values. For example, a light-source holder, which contains the light source, may include holes that increase the thermal resistance between the light source and the substrate. Alternatively, the light-source holder may include a material having a thermal conductivity that is higher than that of stainless steel. In addition, the flat-panel display may include materials and/or a geometry that increases the thermal resistance along a direction in a plane of the substrate. By reducing temperature changes in the flat-panel display, these features can reduce or eliminate color changes and other visual artifacts that can degrade the quality of displayed images.
