2-stage fluidized bed type fine iron ore reducing apparatus, and reducing method using the apparatus
Patent number: 6491738Abstract: A two-stage fluidized bed reducing apparatus and a reducing method for fine iron ore of a wide particle size distribution with an increased degree of utilization of the reducing gas. Fine iron particles dropping through the holes of a gas distributor can be recycled into the fluidized bed furnace, thereby preventing an impediment of the reducing gas flow due to abnormal defluidizing or channeling. A first fluidized bed furnace dries, pre-heats and pre-reduces the fine iron ore, and a second fluidized bed furnace finally reduces the pre-reduced iron ore. Downstream of the respective fluidized beds are installed intermediate hoppers and gas/solid sealing valves. Thus, the fine iron ore particles which drop through the holes of gas distributors during the abnormal operation are recycled to the furnaces. Accordingly, the gas flow is not impeded.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2001Date of Patent: December 10, 2002Assignees: Pohang Iron & Steel Co., Ltd., Research Institute of Industrial Science & Technology, Voest-Alpine Industrieanlagenbau GmbHInventors: Il Ock Lee, Hang Goo Kim, Uoo Chang Jung, Nag Joon Choi -
Publication number: 20020136670Abstract: A fluidized bed reduction reactor has a plurality of fluidized bed reactors (10) with inner gas distributors (19). A charge duct (12) passes through the top of the fluidized bed reactor (10) with a free end to charge a fine iron ore into said reactor (10). The free end of the iron ore charging duct (12) is positioned close to the top center of the gas distributor (19). A spiral-shaped partition weir (13) is placed over the gas distributor and surrounds the iron ore charging duct (12) while being spirally extended to an inner wall of the fluidized bed reactor (10) where it is fixed. The fine iron ore is fluidized and reduced while spirally flowing from the center of the fluidized bed reactor (10) to its inner wall. In this structure, the back mixture phenomenon where the reacted fine iron ore is mixed with the non-reacted fine iron ore does not occur.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 22, 2002Publication date: September 26, 2002Inventors: Hang-Goo Kim, Sun-Kwang Jeong, Il-Ock Lee, Nag-Joon Choi

Patent number: 6241801Abstract: In a method for treating particulate material in the fluidized bed method, the particulate material is maintained in a fluidized bed by a treating gas flowing from bottom to top and thereby is treated. To minimize the consumption of treating gas and to reduce entrainment of fine particles by the treating gas, a particulate material having a wide grain distribution and a relatively high portion of fines is used for treatment and the treating gas in the fluidized bed is maintained at a superficial velocity less than the velocity required for fluidizing the largest particles of said particulate material.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1998Date of Patent: June 5, 2001Assignees: Voest-Alpine Industrieanlagenbau GmbH, Pohang Iron & Steel Co., Ltd., Research Institute of Industrial Science & Technology, Incorporated FoundationInventors: Werner Leopold Kepplinger, Felix Wallner, Johannes-Leopold Schenk, Franz Hauzenberger, Il-Ock Lee

Patent number: 6224819Abstract: A fluidized bed reducing system for reducing a fine iron ore is disclosed, in which the structure of the fluidized bed reducing furnace is improved such that the coarse iron ore particles are distributed in the lower portion of the fluidized bed within the furnace and the fine iron ore particles are distributed in the upper portion of the fluidized bed. Thus, the average residence times of the particles in the furnace are adjusted differently for different ore sizes, so that the reducing efficiency can be improved, and that the residence time of the reducing gas in the furnace can be extended, thereby improving the degree of gas utilization.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 1998Date of Patent: May 1, 2001Assignees: Pohang Iron & Steel Co., Ltd., Research Institute of Industrial Science & Technology, Voest-Alpine Industrieanlagenbau GmbHInventors: Yong Ha Kim, Il Ock Lee, Hang Goo Kim

Patent number: 6086653Abstract: A smelting reduction apparatus and a method for producing molten pig iron using the smelting reduction apparatus are disclosed. The molten pig iron is produced by using iron ore, sintered ore or iron pellets, so that the reduced iron discharge operation from a pre-reducing furnace to a melter-gasifier would not give any influence to the operation of the pre-reducing furnace. An iron ore is pre-reduced at a pre-reducing furnace by utilizing a reducing off-gas which is produced from a melter-gasifier. The pre-reduced iron ore is melted and reduced at the melter-gasifier. The reducing gas which is discharged from the melter-gasifier is supplied through an ascending duct and a cyclone into the pre-reducing furnace. The fine iron ore which is collected at the cyclone is spouted through a recycling device and a melter-burner into the melter-gasifier.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 1998Date of Patent: July 11, 2000Assignees: Pohang Iron & Steel Co., Ltd., Research Institute of Industrial Science & Technology, Voest-Alpine Industrieanlagenbau GmbHInventors: Sang Hoon Joo, Min Young Cho, Il Ock Lee
