Publication number: 20130294224Abstract: A system for performing transmit power and admission control for a satellite based wireless communication systems. Admission control uses centralized admission and distributed admission controls. Centralized admission control uses a maximum persistence value broadcasted from a hub to terminals. Persistence is the probability that a transmission will timely occur. Each terminal transmits a persistence that is no greater than the maximum persistence value. If the transmission fails, the transmission is repeated using the same probability. Lowering the persistence introduces a delay for alleviateing congestion. Power control is performed using centralized and distributed power control. Centralized power control uses power control commands transmitted from the hub to each terminal. When an acknowledge is not received, a backoff and recovery procedure is performed.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 21, 2013Publication date: November 7, 2013Inventors: Franklin P. Antonio, Ilan Kessler, Ze'ev Roth, Ephraim Zehavi

Patent number: 6976090Abstract: A technique for centralized and differentiated content and application delivery system allows content providers to directly control the delivery of content based on regional and temporal preferences, client identity and content priority. A scalable system is provided in an extensible framework for edge services, employing a combination of a flexible profile definition language and an open edge server architecture in order to add new and unforeseen services on demand. In one or more edge servers content providers are allocated dedicated resources, which are not affected by the demand or the delivery characteristics of other content providers. Each content provider can differentiate different local delivery resources within its global allocation. Since the per-site resources are guaranteed, intra-site differentiation can be guaranteed. Administrative resources are provided to dynamically adjust service policies of the edge servers.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 2001Date of Patent: December 13, 2005Assignee: Actona Technologies Ltd.Inventors: Israel Ben-Shaul, Israel Cidon, Ilan Kessler, Itai Lev-Ran, Oren Unger

Patent number: 6320873Abstract: A method for conveying packet data from a CDMA mobile station to a GSM network, including communicating with a GSM service node to establish a data link from the mobile station to the network via a radio communications base station. The packet data are conveyed between the mobile station and the base station over a CDMA air interface and are then transferred over the link between the base station and the network.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 1998Date of Patent: November 20, 2001Assignee: Qualcomm IncorporatedInventors: Ron Nevo, Michael Vakulenko, Sergio Kolor, Shlomo Nizri, Ilan Kessler, Atai Levy, Dror Shindelman

Patent number: 5613198Abstract: A method of dynamically allocating bandwidth of channels to cells in a communications cellular network according to user demand. Groups of cells are formed so as to minimize interference within each group, and a particular channel is assigned to each of the groups. The bandwidth of each channel then is dynamically allocated by time division to each of the cells in the assigned group according to user demand in each of the cells thereof.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 1995Date of Patent: March 18, 1997Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Hamid Ahmadi, Amotz Bar-Noy, Ilan Kessler, Arvind Krishna

Patent number: 5533026Abstract: A communications network having a number of routers, a number of base stations and a number of mobile units maintains communications with the mobile units by assigning a unique address known to the routing entities of the network to each mobile unit. By including the mobile units unique address in topology updates of the network, the location of the mobile unit at any time is made known to all routers of the network. That is, once a mobile unit moves into a domain of a new access point and establishes a new link with the new access point, it uses the topology update mechanism of the network to make its new location known to all routers. Once a router of the network receives topology update information specific to the mobile unit's new location, it updates its routing table such that packets destined to the mobile unit are routed in a path which terminates at the mobile unit and contains its new access point.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 1995Date of Patent: July 2, 1996Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Hamid Ahmadi, Frederic J. Patent number: 5524136Abstract: A method and apparatus for efficiently tracking the location of a mobile station in a cellular network, especially in cellular networks having nonuniform traffic distribution. A mobile station reports to a base station only upon entering selected reporting cells. When communication with a mobile station is desired, the station is searched for in the vicinity of the last reporting cell in which the station appeared. The vicinity of a reporting cell is defined as the set of all intersecting cells reachable from the reporting cell without passing through another reporting cell.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 1992Date of Patent: June 4, 1996Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Amotz Bar-Noy, Ilan Kessler

Patent number: 5442659Abstract: A method for use in multicellular communication network system of the type having base stations and a plurality of remote stations. The method achieves reliable and fault tolerant synchronization between the stations in a call when a frequency hopping technique is used. The method includes steps for acquiring the frequency hop sequence by remote station and tracking the frequency hop sequence after acquisition in order to stay in synchronism. The method also provides for recovering from loss of synchronism and for staying in synchronism.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 1993Date of Patent: August 15, 1995Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Frederick J. Patent number: 5390234Abstract: A method of tracking mobile stations in a cellular network. A mobile station will report to a base station only when the mobile station is turned on and only after having made a minimum number of intercellular movements. When communications with a mobile station is desired, the mobile station is searched for only in the neighborhood of the most recent current cell, which is the last cell from which the mobile station reported to the base station.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 1992Date of Patent: February 14, 1995Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Amotz Bar-Noy, Ilan Kessler
