    Abstract: There is disclosed embodiments of a preprocessing system and method for enhancing a pattern in a spatially-modulated scene. First, the scene is filtered by a spatial band-pass filter which processes all points on the scene in parallel and simultaneously to remove noise and background textures. Next, a line element peak detector processes all points on the filtered pattern in parallel and simultaneously to provide peak signals whose locus defines line elements forming edges or skeletons of the input pattern.
