  • Patent number: 8176766
Abstract: A liquid and solid trap which induces cyclonic motion of a breath flow to separate solids and liquids from a breath sample prior to that sample being provided to a breath detector for determining composition of the vapor portion of said sample. The trap is generally used on delivery type testing devices used for measuring breath alcohol content.

    Assignee: Alcotek, Inc.
Inventors: Hector Ruiz, Ildefonso Gonzalez, Keith Lueck
  • Publication number: 20080154218
Abstract: A phacoemulsification needle 10 includes an elongated lumen 12, a hub 14, and a rigid sleeve 16 concentrically formed around at least a majority of the lumen 12. The sleeve 16 is attached to the hub 14. An irrigation fluid path 24 is formed between the sleeve 16 and lumen 12 and a portion of the path 24 is also formed in the hub 14 for carrying irrigation fluid from a source through the path 24 to a patient's eye during surgery.

  • Publication number: 20080114313
Abstract: A phacoemulsification cannula 10 includes a hub 12 for engagement with an ophthalmic surgical instrument. An elongated needle 14 having a proximal end 16 is attached to the hub 12. The cannula 10 has an aspiration lumen 20 spanning a majority of a length of a needle 14 from the proximal end towards a distal end 18. A venturi lumen 22 is formed in the needle adjacent the distal end. The venturi lumen 22 is in communication with the aspiration lumen 20 so that fluid and tissue may be aspirated through the venturi lumen 22 and the aspiration lumen 20.

  • Patent number: 6581457
Abstract: A compound meter assembly (10) has a housing (15, 17, 19), a high volume flow meter (14) disposed in a main flow passageway (22) for detecting a flow rate of relatively higher volume flows and a low volume flow meter (12) disposed in the secondary flow passageway (29) for detecting a flow rate of relatively lower volume flows. A flow distributor (70) is disposed in the inlet and disposed adjacent the entrance (27) into the secondary flow passageway from the main passageway, said flow distributor (70) having a central opening (71) for receiving the main flow and having flow ports (72) disposed around its circumference for allowing portions of the main flow to flow towards interior walls (26) of the housing (15, 17, 19) such that the flow is better distributed across a cross section of the main passageway (22) to maintain the accuracy of the meter at a crossover region (61, 62) between low flows being metered by the low volume flow meter (12) and high flows being metered by the high volume flow meter (14).
