  • Patent number: 7468709
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for mounting a radiating antenna element used especially in the manufacture of small-sized radio devices and a radio device with a radiator mounted by the method. A thin thermoplastic plate coated with a metal foil is used in the manufacture of the antenna. A radiator pattern is formed in the metal foil. The antenna component obtained is placed (401) on the surface of some plastic part of the radio device, preferably on the inner surface of the thermoplastic cover of the radio device. The plastic layer of the antenna component becomes positioned against said plastic part, and the component is fastened (402, 403) by fusing together the mating plastic materials, which are against each other. In the complete antenna, the radiator is electrically connected to the other parts of the radio device by means of contacts.

  • Patent number: 7340286
Abstract: The invention relates to a cover structure for a portable radio device, which structure also serves the forming of an antenna for the radio device. The cover of the radio device comprises a conductive planar component (330) and a dielectric planar component (340) fastened together. A certain part of the dielectric component extends under the conductive component. On the lower surface of that component, i.e. on the inner surface of the cover of the radio device and isolated from the conductive component of the cover, there is a conductive element (320), which is dimensioned to function as the feed element of the conductive component of the cover. Then the conductive component of the cover for its part functions as the radiator of the antenna of the radio device. Thus the cover structure of the radio device is utilized with only minor changes to implement such an antenna structure in which the electromagnetically fed radiating element is part of the cover of the radio device.

  • Patent number: 7218280
Abstract: A radiating antenna element intended for small-sized radio devices and a method for manufacturing the same. The element (300) is manufactured of a plate comprising a dielectric substrate coated with conductive material on one side. The radiating conductor branches corresponding to the operating bands of the antenna are formed on the plate by removing the conductive coating by laser narrowly from the border line of the area (330) between the designed conductor branches. The conductor area confined by the created border groove can be used as a parasitic additional radiator. If needed, the conductor area confined by the border groove (331) can also be split into a number of small conductor areas (CA1, CA2), in order to make sure that the conductor area does not radiate or have any substantial effect on the coupling between the radiating conductor branches.

  • Publication number: 20040244187
Abstract: Method for producing radiator components for internal antennas in small-sized radio devices. The basis is for instance a tape-like plastic blank (301) wound on a coil former (RL1). In order to support a radiator a flat-topped protrusion (311) is formed into the plastic blank, for instance by pressing with a hot tool. The height of the protrusion is the designed height of the planar antenna. The actual radiator (RPN) with its conductors is formed by removing material from a conducting film to be attached to the top of the boss. A feeding conductor and a shorting conductor are formed as extensions of the radiator, and they are located on a surface of the protrusion. A contact is attached both to the feeding conductor and to the shorting conductor in order to later connect the antenna component to a radio device. Elongated gaps can be made in the plane of the plastic blank around the edges of the protrusion in order to facilitate loosening of the component.
