  • Patent number: 8121881
Abstract: The method and system for managing a project with multiple tasks and milestones by defining probabilities of key project events and assessing their performance risk. Each task of the project is described as a waveform propagating from this task to an assigned milestone, and each milestone is described as a coherent superposition of task waveforms. The probability of any milestone is obtained by comparison of probabilities of non-perturbed and perturbed milestone, which caused by delay of a task or combination of tasks.

  • Patent number: 7061657
Abstract: Method and system thereof for transmission of several coherence division multiplexed (CDM) optical signals via one wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) transmission channel of a multichannel WDM telecommunication system to extend the network capacity to a theoretical limit. • Patent number: 6876818
Abstract: A system and method for transmission of data modulated spectrally enriched optical pulses via an error free propagation region of an optical fiber, in which the optical pulses generated by an optical transmitter have a spectrum that is substantially wider than the spectrum of Fourier-transform limit at an input of the error-free propagation region. The spectral width of the optical pulses gradually narrows while transmitting along this region and becomes comparable to the Fourier-transform limit at an output of this region. Linear and non-linear distortions are compensated within the error free propagation region respectively by deployment of dispersion compensating units and phase modulation of transmitted optical pulses for providing them with an appropriate frequency chirp having shape comparable with a frequency chirp induced by a self-phase modulation of the optical fiber but having opposite sign.

  • Publication number: 20040109546
Abstract: Method and system are provided for optimization and transmission of digital signals through twisted pairs of telephone cables. Crosstalk reduction is obtained due to cancellation of electromagnetic fields generated by correlated twisted pairs by establishing mutual pair-to-pair coherence at each tone of a transmission spectrum and introducing a requested phase shift between the tones propagating in different pairs.

  • Patent number: 6607311
Abstract: A transmission of optical signals generated by multi-line optical sources is provided via multichannel WDM optical network. Each multi-line optical source generates optical spectral lines within designated spectral range associated with the spectral window allocated for corresponding WDM channel, and comprises a plurality of spectral lines. Spectral lines are substantially narrower than the spectral separation between the lines.

  • Patent number: 6122082
Abstract: In a mixed WDM/SONET network having optical and SONET layers, the communication between these layers is provided by optoelectronic units. The optical layer of the mixed network is presented by a WDM equipment and a service restoration system which utilizes optical switches and protects the mixed network from loss of the WDM traffic. The optoelectronic units monitor WDM and SONET traffic and control optical switches by utilizing a WDM/SONET adapter for communicating information between WDM and SONET equipment. The WDM/SONET adapter generates temporary SONET signals and passes these signals through the WDM and SONET equipment, and a service channel for transmitting control signals from the WDM/SONET adapter to the optical switches.

  • Patent number: 6046832
Abstract: An architecture for mixed SONET/WDM networks using one dedicated protection ring for protection of several WDM links deployed along the same SONET ring by providing optical switching equipment for switching telecommunication traffic from working optical fibers of failed WDM links to protection optical fibers of the dedicated SONET ring selected for that purpose from the plurality of SONET rings of the mixed SONET/WDM network.

  • Patent number: 5982517
Abstract: A service restoration system and method for a mixed SONET/WDM optical fiber telecommunication networks comprising a plurality of self healing SONET rings and at least one WDM link which is shared by these SONET rings, provides protection on the optical layer of at least one WDM link in case of fiber or cable cut. The WDM link protection is provided by rerouting the WDM link traffic through a dedicated protection ring which is selected from the plurality of self healing SONET rings, via color blind optical fiber-to-fiber switches. The WDM working equipment protection is provided by rerouting the SONET traffic via additional optical switches and wavelength converters through WDM link. Wavelength converter aligns the wavelength of the optical signal to match the wavelength of failed WDM channel, to localize and heal the failure of the WDM working equipment without reporting to the adjacent nodes.

  • Patent number: 5793513
Abstract: The invented method and devices address signal regeneration and all-optical switching in optical fiber transmission lines. In modern optical networks, after several stages of optical amplification, the noise accumulation requires regeneration e.g. translation to electronic domain. A new type of optical repeater and optical switch are suggested to perform regeneration and switching on the optical level. The main component of the devices is an optical cavity implanted into a section of the optical fiber and bounded by fiber gratings. In the optical repeater, the fiber cavity is nonlinear; at resonant frequency, the cavity almost totally rejects the noise and transmits the signal. In the optical switch, the fiber cavity is linear; depending on the cavity tuning, the signal may be transmitted through the cavity or reflected and redirected to an appropriate switch port.

  • Patent number: 5574562
Abstract: A technique for evaluation of high-T.sub.c superconducting films and single crystals is based on measurement of temperature dependence of differential optical reflectivity of high-T.sub.c materials. In the claimed method, specific parameters of the superconducting transition such as the critical temperature, anisotropy of the differential optical reflectivity response, and the part of the optical losses related to sample quality are measured. The apparatus for performing this technique includes pump and probe sources, cooling means for sweeping sample temperature across the critical temperature and polarization controller for controlling a state of polarization of a probe light beam.

  • Patent number: 4949742
Abstract: A gas valve which is particularly useful in a laser gas fill system requiring repeated fillings includes a conduit positioned between high and low pressure gas regions. Within the conduit is a restriction, and this restriction is closed by a meltable solid material. When the valve is to be opened, heat is applied to the meltable solid material, either internally or externally, causing at least some of the material to flow and allow the passage of gas from the higher pressure region to the lower pressure region. When the pressure between the two regions has substantially equalized, or at least the pressure differential has greatly diminished, surface tension associated with the restriction in the conduit pulls the liquified material back into place to close and reseal the valve, at which point heat application is dicontinued so that the material again becomes solid.
