Abstract: A mobile communication terminal which senses a counterpart mobile communication terminal located within a predetermined range by using local area communication and displays a character corresponding to the sensed counterpart mobile communication terminal on its screen. After character cooperation, the mobile communication terminal transmits reproduced music or a user's spoken comment to counterpart mobile communication terminals by using the local area communication. Also, the mobile communication terminal outputs a sound signal transmitted from a counterpart mobile communication terminal by using the local area communication. Therefore, mobile communication terminals can share music with each other, so that the users can enjoy various types of communication by forming a virtual community space.

Abstract: A touch input device and method for a portable device that is capable of inputting various user commands with diversified touch events detected on a touch screen is provided. A touch input method for a mobile terminal having a touch screen may include displaying a plurality of representative images representing content objects on the touch screen, selecting at least one representative image in response to a first command designated for a first touch event on the touch screen, and executing a second command designated for a second touch event on the touch screen. The second touch event may be defined by a movement direction, speed, a lift position of a touch, and the representative images selected by the first command.

Abstract: A portable terminal and a user interface control method thereof are provided. In the terminal and method, patterns of a subject image captured by a camera are recognized and analyzed. First and second images changed according to motion (movement, holding away from or drawing close to a user) of the portable terminal are captured by the camera module. Patterns of the first and second images are recognized. The motion of the portable terminal is analyzed based on the recognized patterns. Control commands corresponding to the analyzed motion are selected. A function corresponding to the selected control command is performed. The portable terminal can be intuitively and simply used as its motion is directly applied to user interface control. User interface can be controlled without an additional part, using a camera installed to the portable terminal. Also, the present invention can resolve the problems caused when the conventional navigation key is operated.

Abstract: A scanner including: a transparent plate; a light emitting unit that emits light to an object on the transparent plate; a sensor to form an image of the object; a focusing lens unit that is arranged on a light path between the transparent plate and the sensor, to focus light from the object onto the sensor; and a controller to determine whether a foreign substance is disposed in the light path, using the image, calculates a position of the foreign substance, and corrects the image on the basis of the calculated position of the foreign substance.

Abstract: A mobile terminal and a method of controlling a mobile terminal are provided. The method includes assigning at least a first function and a second function to each of one or more variable function keys and performing a first function assigned to a selected one of the variable function keys when the mobile terminal is in a first operating mode and performing a second function assigned to the selected one of the variable function keys when the mobile terminal is in a second operating mode, while maintaining the functions of non-variable function keys.

Abstract: According to a method of providing a user interface (UI), and a multimedia apparatus using the same, if a user touches a touch screen, a guide representing functions to be performed according to a user's operation is displayed. Therefore, a user can use the touch screen more conveniently.

Abstract: A method of providing a graphical user interface (GUI) and a multimedia apparatus using the same are provided, the method including: dividing a list display area into a plurality of sub-areas; and displaying a plurality of related lists regarding the multimedia content on the plurality of sub-areas, respectively. Accordingly, a plurality of related lists are displayed on a plurality of divided areas, and the scroll directions of the lists are independently decided according to each area. Therefore, a user can find desired content with greater convenience.

Abstract: A mobile terminal having a touch screen and a method of controlling functions in the mobile terminal are disclosed. Abstract: An image forming apparatus and a control method thereof include an adaptive threshold, which can be adapted for every block dividing an entire scanned region of a document, is set. A brightness value of original brightness data of the document is disregarded, and is substituted by a brightness value of background color data corresponding to the block, by use of a brightness threshold and a color difference threshold set as the adaptive threshold based on difference between brightness of the blocks and difference between color differences of the blocks. Accordingly, there is no problem of back surface noise such that an undesired object of a back surface of the duplex-printed document appears on a scan image in scanning a front surface of the document.

Abstract: A method of selecting one of a plurality of hyperlinks of a webpage viewed on a touchscreen of a mobile terminal is provided. A hyperlink selection method using a touchscreen includes detecting an occurrence of a touch event in which a touch point on the touchscreen displaying a webpage including a plurality of hyperlinks is touched, determining a number of hyperlinks involved in the touch event, displaying icons corresponding to the hyperlinks if the number of hyperlinks involved in the touch event is greater than or equal to two, and selecting an icon in response to movement of the touch point to one of the displayed icons.

The portable terminal includes a controller to determine whether a display screen is in a portrait mode in response to a text input request, and a touch screen to split a touch keypad into a left-hand keypad and a right-hand keypad and display one of the left-hand keypad and the right-hand keypad above the other, according to the control of the controller, when the display screen is in the portrait mode. Abstract: A color space conversion apparatus and a method of controlling the same, the color space conversion apparatus including: a first color space conversion unit to convert a first color space into a first Lab color space; a second color space conversion unit to convert a second color space into a second Lab color space; a spherical color space conversion unit to expand the first and second Lab color spaces into a spherical color space; and a spherical gamut mapping unit to perform gamut mapping between the first and second color spaces through spherical parametrization, thus avoiding problems in color reproduction caused by the lack of one-to-one correspondence between Lab color space values of the input and output devices.

The system includes a camera to obtain image data of a fixed environment, a rotation angle calculation unit to calculate a plurality of angular velocities of a mobile robot based on an analysis of the image data, a gyrosensor to output a plurality of pieces of raw data according to rotation inertia of the mobile robot and a scale factor calculation unit to calculate a scale factor that indicates the relationship between the pieces of raw data and the angular velocities.

Abstract: A method of displaying information in a mobile terminal having a touch screen is provided. The method includes determining whether a touch input is generated by a touch screen, determining whether a touch area moves, calculating a movement direction of the touch area by extracting a value of the touch area movement, determining a current mode according to the calculated movement direction of the touch area, executing a function of the current mode corresponding to the extracted value of the touch area movement, and displaying, while executing the function of the current mode, at least one of a displacement value generated by executing the function of the current mode and a current mode icon indicating the current mode. Accordingly, when displaying information according to a touch input, changes of information may be displayed distinctively, and thereby user convenience may be improved.
