In Mun has filed for patents to protect the following inventions. This listing includes patent applications that are pending as well as patents that have already been granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

  • Publication number: 20070236339
Abstract: A process for tracking an object within an inventory control space is provided. The space is illustratively a medical care delivery setting. An active radiofrequency (RFID) tag is encoded with a single-use code and associated with an inventory item. After a trigger event, the RFID tag transmits a modified broadcast. The single-use code that is a new number with at least one sparse digit or a new secondary number with a retained primary digit. An RFID tag configured to retain such a code scheme is provided. A hospital inventory item labeled with such an RFID tag is also provided.

  • Publication number: 20070106152
Abstract: A system is provided for subject movement compensation during a medical procedure. The system uses passive radiofrequency identification tags associated with a subject, and at least one active RFID reader is positioned to interrogate the position of at least three such passive radiofrequency identification tags so as to triangulate the geometric position of a subject body tissue. The reader generates an output signal corresponding to a distance between said reader and a tag. A microprocessor calculates a displacement of a tag relative to the reader from said output signal to yield a value corresponding to subject movement. A medical device operates in synchronicity with the calculation corresponding to subject movement to compensate for subject movement during a treatment process in essentially real time. A process for subject movement compensation during a medical procedure is also provided.

  • Publication number: 20070013480
Abstract: An inventory control process includes the association of an inventory item with a reusable container at an origination point. The container is inclusive of a passive or active identification tag. The container is transported within the range of a transponder able to share information with the identification tag. Upon reaching a destination point, the inventory item is unpacked from the container and the container recycled for association with a new inventory item. An inventory delivery device includes a reusable container labeled with an active identification tag. An inventory item is inserted within the container. A disposable tamper-evident seal retaining the inventory item with the container is provided. The device is particularly well suited for transportation for timely and high clinical value items within a medical care setting.

  • Publication number: 20070013529
Abstract: Systems and methods for decreasing errors in patient care by ensuring correct correlation between a patient and items intended for use in care of the patient are provided. In particular, an inventive set of associated items is provided in which each of the items is labeled with related identification information contained in machine readable wireless tags attached to the items. In one configuration, an identification badge to be worn by a patient and a specimen container for holding a specimen obtained from the patient are provided, each labeled with a machine readable wireless tag. Also, a kit for use in patient care is provided which includes an associated set of items and may further include a syringe, a needle, gauze, a cleansing wipe, a bandage, a tourniquet, or a glove.

  • Publication number: 20070014693
Abstract: Improved systems and methods are provided for monitoring compliance with an order for a patient specimen. Broadly, an inventive system incorporates a machine readable wireless identification and sensor technology to provide feedback to a caregiver regarding compliance with a specimen order. In particular, a system for monitoring compliance with an order for a specimen is provided which includes a specimen container having an attached machine readable wireless tag. The tag contains specimen container characteristic information. The tagged container aids in indicating to a user whether the correct specimen container type has been chosen. Further, a system is provided which includes a sensor useful in indicating whether a sufficient quantity of specimen has been obtained in order to perform the requested laboratory test as part of the patient's care.

  • Publication number: 20070013528
Abstract: A system for verifying patient identity is detailed which allows hospital personnel to reduce error in patient care due to misidentification of a patient. Broadly, an inventive system for verifying patient identity includes a machine readable wireless identification tag containing identification information, the tag attached to an identification badge worn by a patient, a device having data input and output capacity, processing circuitry, memory circuitry and an executable program for analysis of data transmitted from the tag, and a machine wireless reader in data communication with the tag and the device. Also included is a signal display element for displaying a signal to a user, the signal display element disposed on the device or the reader. Further, an alert system is provided for alerting hospital personnel to presence of an object or person having a machine readable wireless tag not associated with a first patient in proximity to the first patient.

  • Publication number: 20050258939
Abstract: A transponder-equipped ID tag is provided, deriving its power from an incoming interrogating optical signal. The invention relates to a transponder-equipped ID tag that is able to extract power from the incident corresponding interrogation signal and temporarily store it in an internal energy storage device. Optionally, optical transmission is used as either a transmission mode only into the tag or a transmission mode only away from the tag. The inventive optical means of transmission may be combined with either RF transmission into the tag and/or RF transmission away from the tag.
