  • Publication number: 20180213425
Abstract: A measurement gap enhancement method is disclosed for use in both synchronous and asynchronous networks. The measurement gap enhancement method employs a first measurement gap pattern, suitable for synchronous networks, including measurement gaps that are of shorter duration and available for more frequency measurements than in legacy implementations. The measurement gap enhancement method also employs a second measurement gap pattern, which also includes short duration measurement gaps, but is also characterized by flexible measurement gap repetition periods suited to asynchronous networks. The first and second measurement gap patterns are made known to an user equipment by way of novel information elements used during RRC connection reconfiguration by the enhanced NodeB base station. The measurement gap enhancement method enables the user equipment to maintain its radio frequency setting between measurements, particularly automatic gain control.

  • Publication number: 20180210242
Abstract: A novel phase shifter design for carrier depletion based silicon modulators, based on an experimentally validated model, is described. It is believed that the heretofore neglected effect of incomplete ionization will have a significant impact on ultra-responsive phase shifters. A low V?L product of 0.3 V·cm associated with a low propagation loss of 20 dB/cm is expected to be observed. The phase shifter is based on overlapping implantation steps, where the doses and energies are carefully chosen to utilize counter-doping to produce an S-shaped junction. This junction has a particularly attractive V?L figure of merit, while simultaneously achieving attractively low capacitance and optical loss. This improvement will enable significantly smaller Mach-Zehnder modulators to be constructed that nonetheless would have low drive voltages, with substantial decreases in insertion loss. The described fabrication process is of minimal complexity; in particular, no high-resolution lithographic step is required.

  • Publication number: 20180212541
Abstract: Described herein is an approximate dynamic programming (ADP) vector controller for control of a permanent magnet (PM) motor. The ADP controller is developed using the full dynamic equation of a PM motor and implemented using an artificial neural network (ANN). A feedforward control strategy is integrated with the ANN-based ADP controller to enhance the stability and transient performance of the ADP controller in both linear and over modulation regions. Simulation and hardware experiments demonstrate that the proposed ANN-based ADP controller can track large reference changes with high efficiency and reliability for PM motor operation in linear and over modulation regions.

  • Publication number: 20180213526
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a terminal device, in which a processing module selects one or more normal carriers or special carriers from a first carrier set for an uplink subframe, where the first carrier set includes all carriers in carrier aggregation that are used by the terminal device to send a first uplink subframe; and a sending module cancels sending of the uplink subframe on one or more carriers, where the special carrier is a carrier on which the terminal device sends neither uplink data nor uplink control information in uplink, and the normal carrier is a carrier that is used by the terminal device to send uplink data and/or uplink control information. An uplink subframe on some carriers is rejected, thereby resolving a problem that information such as a downlink channel characteristic of a carrier cannot be obtained when no uplink reference signal is sent on the carrier.
