  • Patent number: 9227425
Abstract: A ribbon tension control system for a printing system includes a ribbon tension control apparatus. The ribbon tension control apparatus is configured to engage a print ribbon that extends through the printing system for applying one or more inks in the print ribbon to one or more target objects as the print ribbon is pulled from an unwind spindle to a windup spindle in the printing system. The ribbon tension control apparatus also is configured to control tension in the ribbon in response to change in a torque applied to the windup spindle that is used to pull the ribbon through the printing system.

  • Patent number: 9114632
Abstract: A printing system includes a controller and a ribbon reading device. The controller is configured to control operations of the printing system according to operational parameters. The operational parameters used to control printing of ink from a thermal print ribbon onto one or more target objects by a thermal print head. The ribbon reading device is configured to examine the thermal print ribbon as the thermal print ribbon moves in the printing system. The ribbon reading device examines the thermal print ribbon to determine if the thermal print ribbon is associated with a set of designated operational parameters for the printing system. The controller is configured to use the set of designated operational parameters to control the operations of the printing system when the thermal print ribbon is associated with the set of designated operational parameters.

  • Patent number: 8844859
Abstract: A reel-to-reel assembly is provided. The reel-to-reel assembly includes, but is not limited to a supply spindle and a wind-up spindle. The supply spindle receives a supply reel having a length of ribbon wrapped around the supply reel. The wind-up spindle receives an initially empty wind-up reel. The wind-up spindle includes an adjustment mechanism for varying the outer diameter DO of the wind-up spindle from an initial outer diameter DOi to a final outer diameter DOf which is larger than the initial outer diameter DOi.

  • Publication number: 20140210934
Abstract: A ribbon guide for a ribbon printing system includes a body that is elongated along a longitudinal axis from a base end an opposite end and having a tapered shape from the base end to the opposite end. The body is configured to be coupled with a cassette plate of the ribbon printing system along a path taken by a print ribbon in the ribbon printing system such that the body deflects the print ribbon to travel away from the cassette plate when the print ribbon is pulled from an unwind spindle to a windup spindle in the ribbon printing system.

  • Patent number: 8621745
Abstract: A stretch film sleeve label applicator for separating a stretchable sleeve label from a web of such labels and applying the label to an item, such as a container, is disclosed. The applicator is particularly useful for applying high stretch labels to highly contoured containers. The applicator is configured to receive a series of labels in an elongated, continuous web of flat, 2-ply sleeve labels, open the continuous sleeve of labels, separate an individual label from a next successive label, stretch the label to permit its application to an item to be labeled, such as a container, and apply the label in an accurate and precise location on the container. The applicator comprises three primary components: a label feeding assembly, a label separating assembly and a label stretching assembly. Various embodiments of the label feeding assembly, label separating assembly and label stretching assembly are disclosed.
