  • Patent number: 8901203
Abstract: The present invention relates to a stable pyrithione salt polyol dispersion containing a pyrithione salt(s) in particulate form, a polyol and a stabilizer such as a rheological additive. The dispersion can be incorporated into existing polyurethane formulations without additional formula adjustment. Polyurethane foams produced from the composition containing pyrithione salt polyol dispersion of the present invention have more open cell structures, than those produced with a typical commercially available pyrithione salt thus providing a soft comfortable feeling.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 30, 2009
Date of Patent: December 2, 2014
    Assignee: Arch Chemicals, Inc.
Inventors: Indulis Gruzins, Kiran B. Chandalia, Brian L. Cooper, Thomas E. Robitaille, Mauricio da Silva Franzim

  • Patent number: 6716913
Abstract: The present invention is directed to carboxyl-containing monomers for use in preparing a polyurethane polymers, the carboxyl-containing monomers being the reaction product of a low molecular weight polyol compound and an acid anhydride in the presence of 5-500 ppm phosphoric acid, the carboxyl-containing monomer having a viscosity in the range of 3,000 to 100,000 centipoise, and having oligomer content of less than about 30 mg KOH/g. The present invention is also directed to methods of making the above carboxyl-containing monomers, as well as prepolymers and urethane polymers containing the above carboxyl-containing monomers.

  • Publication number: 20020156316
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a low viscosity carboxyl-containing polyol composition having a viscosity in the range of about 3,000-100,000 centipoise, and having an oligomer content of less than 30 mg KOH/g. Preferably, the carboxyl-containing polyol has one ester group per molecule. The carboxyl-containing polyol is suitable for use in preparing low viscosity polyurethane prepolymers. Also disclosed is a method of producing this carboxyl-containing polyol composition by reacting a low molecular weight triol with an acid anhydride in the presence of 25-500 ppm of an inorganic or organic acid catalyst. The organic or inorganic acid is preferably selected from the group consisting of hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, formic acid, proprionic acid, p-toluenesulfonic acid, oxalic acid, and combinations thereof.

  • Patent number: 5693696
Abstract: A modified polyurethane structionally incorporating filler having active hydrogen groups on a surface thereof into a polyurethane polymer. The filler is first fluidized with a polyol and then reacted with a linking component having an organo reactive group that is reactive with an isocyanate. Polyisocyanate and additional polyol are added to the reaction mixture such that the isocyanate reacts with the linking component and the polyol to form a polymer wherein the filler is an integral unit in the polymer. The resultant modified polyurethane has good dynamic properties and is surprisingly resilient. Preferred fillers are sand, clay talc and mixtures thereof.

  • Patent number: 5484832
Abstract: A modified polyurethane structionally incorporating silica into a polyurethane polymer. The silica is first fluidized with a polyol and then reacted with a linking component having an organo reactive group that is reactive with an isocyanate. Polyisocyanate and additional polyol are added to the reaction mixture such that the isocyanate reacts with the linking component and the polyol to form a polymer wherein the silica is an integral unit in the polymer. The resultant modified polyurethane has good dynamic properties and is surprisingly resilient.
