The absorbent structure includes an acquisition layer and at least one storage layer. The acquisition layer has a plurality of fragments of a liquid-absorbing, open-celled, polyacrylate-based foam material, and each fragment exhibits a planar extension having a transversal direction, a longitudinal direction, and a thickness direction extending perpendicularly to the planar extension. The width in the transversal direction of each fragment in a dry condition does not exceed 10 millimeters, and the total area of the fragments in the planar extension is lower than the area of the absorbent structure in the planar extension.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 2004Date of Patent: June 26, 2007Assignee: SCA Hygiene Products ABInventors: Ted Guidotti, Ing-Britt Magnusson, Madeleine Pehrson

The fluid acquisition/transfer layer includes a mixture of heat-shrunk, spiralized, thermoplastic multicomponent, preferably bicomponent, functional fibers of 3.4 dtex or more. The components of the functional fibers each have different shrinkage properties and are located in a side-by-side relationship for creating the spiralized shape of the functional fibers. The fluid acquisition/transfer layer also includes bonding fibers that bond to each other through heat treatment while the functional fibers do not bond to each other during heat treatment.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 1999Date of Patent: August 26, 2003Assignee: SC Hygiene Products ABInventors: Ing-Britt Magnusson, Christina Steger

Patent number: 6235966Abstract: Absorbent structure (1) consisting of an absorbent material layer (2) of cellulose fibers (4) and a high-loft material layer (3) of synthetic fibers (5), and a method for producing an absorbent structure (1) which is intended for use in an absorbent article. The two layers are held together by being integrated in each other by the fibers (4) of the absorption material (2) extending into cavities in the high-loft material (3). In this method, the absorbent material (2) is mat-formed directly on a high-loft material (3), which is placed on a wire (26). Arranged under the wire (26) there is a suction box (22) which sucks air downwards, the fibers (4) being sucked downwards and penetrating down into the high-loft material (3).Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1998Date of Patent: May 22, 2001Assignee: SCA Hygiene Products ABInventors: Ing-Britt Magnusson, Johanna PĂ„lsson

Patent number: 5407438Abstract: The present invention relates to a casing intended for an absorbent article, such as a disposable diaper, incontinence guard or like article. The casing (1) includes a front-part (5), a rear-part (10) and an intermediate crotch-part (22) made of flexible casing material. According to the invention, an elastic band (14, 15) is provided on each outer edge of the casing sides, at least within the crotch-part of the casing. The elastic band is attached, in a stretched state, to that side of the casing which lies nearest the skin of the user when the absorbent article is worn, by means of a narrow, elongated join. The elastic bands also include parts which extend transversely in relation to respective joins, in a direction from the joins in towards the central part of the casing.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 1993Date of Patent: April 18, 1995Assignee: Molnlycke ABInventors: Gunilla Hedlund, Ing-Britt Magnusson
