  • Patent number: 7972091
Abstract: A milling tool intended for chip-removing machining includes a basic body rotatable around a geometrical centre axis and peripherically spaced-apart, detachable cutting inserts, which separately are securable in insert pockets adjacent to chip channels formed in the basic body. The individual cutting insert have at least one edge formed between a chip surface on the top side of the cutting insert and a clearance surface along the periphery side of the cutting insert, and the individual insert pocket is arranged to secure the individual cutting insert in a position in which the chip surface is inclined in relation to the centre axis while forming a positive angle of inclination.

  • Publication number: 20080273930
Abstract: The invention relates to a milling tool intended for chip-removing machining, comprising a basic body rotatable around a geometrical centre axis and a plurality of peripherically spaced-apart, detachable cutting inserts, which separately are securable in insert pockets adjacent to chip channels formed in the basic body, the individual cutting insert having at least one edge formed between a chip surface on the top side of the cutting insert and a clearance surface along the periphery side of the cutting insert, the tool geometry being markedly positive so far that the individual insert pocket is arranged to secure the individual cutting insert in a position in which the chip surface is inclined in relation to the centre axis while forming a positive angle of inclination.

  • Patent number: 6945740
Abstract: A rotatable cutting tool for chip-removing machining includes a basic body which defines a center axis of rotation. Cutting inserts are detachably mounted in respective cutting seats that are formed in the basic body. Each insert has a square shape and includes first and second pairs of mutually parallel major cutting edges, four corners, and four wiper edges. Each wiper edge is situated between a major cutting edge and a respective corner. The wiper edges are shorter than the major cutting edges and are inclined relative thereto, wherein an imaginary extension line of the wiper edge forms a first acute angle with the respective major cutting edge as the insert is viewed in a direction perpendicular to the top surface. The cutting seats are arranged to orient the inserts wherein an axially forwardmost wiper edge of each insert lies in a plane oriented perpendicular to the axis, and wherein a radially outermost wiper edge of each insert is oriented parallel to the axis.

  • Patent number: 6619891
Abstract: A rotatable milling tool includes a body, and at least one set of circumferentially spaced cutting members that are intersected by a common plane oriented perpendicularly to a longitudinal center axis of the body. The set of cutting members includes at least three cutting members mounted in an envelope surface of the body. Each cutting member includes a flank surface and a cutting edge disposed adjacent to the flank surface. Each cutting edge has axially spaced apart ends. The flanked surface of each cutting member forms a clearance angle with a tangent extending through the respective cutting edge. The flank surface of the insert has a larger clearance angle than the flank surfaces of at least two other inserts in the same set. During a milling operation, the cutting members with smaller clearance angles tend to produce stability and vibration-free rotation, while the cutting member having the larger clearance angle ensures a high precision (smooth) machining.

  • Patent number: 6200077
Abstract: A twist drill includes a shank which defines a longitudinal center axis and has a helical, chip-transporting flute formed therein. A cutting insert is arranged at a front end of the flute. The insert includes a body forming a cutting edge and a flank surface arrangement situated behind the cutting edge. The flank surface arrangement includes first and second flank surfaces extending at respective first and second acute angles relative to a reference plane which contains the center axis. The sizes of the first and second acute angles are different from one another. In one embodiment, each of the first and second flank surfaces intersects the cutting edge. In a second embodiment, only the second flank surface intersects the cutting edge, with the first flank surface extending from a rear end of the second flank surface.
