  • Publication number: 20060228263
Abstract: An apparatus for filling a sample volume defining device for separating at least one small defined volume of a liquid sample from a relatively larger undefined volume of said sample, said device including a first body and a second body movable relative to each other, whereby said first body has at least one cavity in a surface thereof, said at least one cavity having said defined volume. One of said first or said second body has at least one inlet opening adapted to be placed in a drop of the liquid sample. A defined channel is provided between said first and second body, which channel has fluid connection with said at least one opening and at least beyond said at least one cavity whereby the dimensions of said channel being such that said channel and said at least one cavity is filled with said liquid sample.

  • Publication number: 20060194335
Abstract: A method and a device for separating a small defined volume of a liquid sample from a relatively large undefined volume of the sample. In a surface of a first body (10) at least one cavity (12) having said small defined volume is provided. The relatively large volume of sample is applied onto the surface and into the cavity. A scraping edge (15) is moved relative to the surface and the cavity, thereby scraping a volume of the relatively large volume from the surface and leaving said small defined volume in the cavity.

  • Publication number: 20060013740
Abstract: A disposable apparatus for use in blood testing includes a housing (21) having integrated means (41) for receiving a blood sample, a plurality of receptacles (28-33) for diluent and diluted sample, and a plurality of channels (34-39). Depressions are formed in a surface (27) of the housing to form the receptacles (28-33) and the channels. A diaphragm (40) seals the receptacles and the channels relative to said surface (27). When a pressure variation is applied to a portion of the diaphragm sealing a receptacle, liquid is caused to be displaced to or from that receptacle.

  • Publication number: 20040213699
Abstract: A disposable apparatus for use in blood testing and being adapted for simultaneous dilution of a blood sample into two different dilution ratios, said apparatus including a block-shaped housing having integrated therein a first and a second receptacle, one of which as a first blood sample receiver being adapted to receive a blood sample; a first and a second container, each containing a defined volume of a diluent; a valve including a valve body having three valve body channels extending therethrough and being positionable in three distinct positions, one of which putting the receptacles in simultaneous communication with a respective one of the containers through pairs of the channels; and displacers for displacing diluent and diluted sample through said channels between said containers and said receptacles.

  • Patent number: 6387328
Abstract: A disposable sampling device for an apparatus for counting particles contained in a liquid, including a solid block-shaped housing connectable in a defined position to the apparatus. The housing has a member for introducing a sample therein, a device for metering a defined volume of the sample, and a chamber for containing a defined volume (V) of a diluting liquid. A diluting chamber is provided together with a device for simultaneously directing the defined volume of a sample and the defined volume of diluting liquid to the diluting chamber for obtaining therein a diluted sample. A device is provided for directing at least a portion of the diluted sample past a particle detecting member, and a signal transmitting member connects the particle detecting member and terminal member located at an outer boundary of the housing in a position corresponding to a location of a terminal member of the apparatus when the housing is connected thereto in the defined position.

  • Patent number: 6284548
Abstract: A method for performing a dilution step in a blood testing apparatus of a small, defined volume of a blood sample contained in a capillary tube, comprises the steps of providing an adapter for receiving the capillary tube, connecting the adapter to a conduit for diluting liquid, directing a flow of diluting liquid through the conduit and the adapter and at least partly through the capillary tube received therein, and collecting the defined volume of blood sample and the diluting liquid in a vessel. In a blood testing apparatus adapted for performing dilution of a small defined volume of a blood sample contained in a capillary tube, an adapter is inserted in a diluting liquid conduit of the apparatus. The adapter is arranged to receive the capillary tube such that flow of the diluting liquid through the conduit passes at least partly through the capillary tube.

  • Patent number: 6098471
Abstract: A device for particle counting includes a metering device for metering a volume of a liquid sample containing particles and a cylinder for dosing a volume of a diluting liquid to a dilution chamber. The cylinder has first and second ends and a piston. A conduit connects a first end of the cylinder and the dilution chamber. The metering device introduces the liquid sample in the conduit and movement of the piston towards the first end displaces diluting liquid and sample to the dilution chamber which communicates with the second end of the cylinder and is preferably located therein, whereby movement of the piston towards the second end causes pressurizing of the dilution chamber to displace diluted sample from the dilution chamber through a particle counter. The piston has a piston rod extending through the first cylinder end, whereby movement of the piston towards the first end causes an increase in volume (V.sub.2) in the cylinder on the second piston side that is greater than the decrease in volume (V.sub.
