  • Patent number: 6543970
Abstract: A double negative cutting insert has opposite top and bottom sides between which transverse flank surfaces extend, adjacent to which cutting edges are formed. There are at least four useful major cutting edges, which separately extend from an active operating corner towards a nearby first inactive corner. Each major cutting edge co-operates with a minor cutting edge with the purpose of face machining the surface, that is left after material removal. The cutting insert has an octagonal basic shape, the top and bottom sides thereof having an identical shape with four spaced-apart supporting projections, which are placed near the four inactive corners and have plane abutment surfaces located in a common plane. An individual land adjacent to the major cutting edges has a concavely arched shape in order to provide a positive cutting geometry during operation.

  • Patent number: 6421906
Abstract: Identical ring-shaped metal blanks are machined whereby each blank forms a plurality of identical components. The blanks are first machined on both sides, and then a stack of the blanks is clamped axially adjacent one another on an arbor. Tools machine the blanks for reshaping the blanks. One of the tools is a slitter which makes axial cuts through the stack to separate each blank into a plurality of components distributed around the axis.

  • Patent number: 6334740
Abstract: A milling tool includes a number of peripheral recesses, each of which accommodates an insert-carrying cartridge, and a clamping wedge which is tightenable by of a clamping screw. The clamping wedge includes two separate contact surfaces. One of the contact surfaces presses the cartridge into its respective recess. The other contact surface presses the insert into its seat in the cartridge while simultaneously pressing the cartridge into the recess.

  • Patent number: 6290436
Abstract: A cutting insert for rotating cutting tools for chip-breaking metal machining is delimited by atop side, adjacent to which there are cutting edges, an opposed bottom side and one or several relief surfaces. In the topside is provided a first depression for accommodating a male-like protrusion on a clamping element for fixing of the cutting insert. In the bottom side is provided a female recess for cooperating with a male means on the seat of the cutting insert. By these male-female joints, it is guaranteed that the cutting insert is not flung out from the appurtenant seat, when it is submitted to extremely large centrifugal forces.

  • Patent number: 6280122
Abstract: A cutter head of a milling tool is equipped with machining elements which can be fastened in respective recesses of a rotary body by one or more clamping wedges. On the rear side of the individual machining element there are serrations which co-operate with serrations formed in a rear wall of the recess. The serrations extend generally parallel to an axis of rotation of the cutter head. A bottom wall in the recess is divided into a plurality of wall parts which are separated by a first axially facing abutment surface against which an axially facing a second abutment surface on the machining element can be engaged, to define an exact initial mounting location for the machining element.

  • Patent number: 6086290
Abstract: A milling tool includes a rotatable supporting body having detachable cassettes upon which cutting inserts are mounted. The cutting inserts are provided with cutting edges. Two serrated surfaces are provided in order to connect the individual cassette with the supporting body. A first of the two serrated surfaces is located upon the periphery of the supporting body and faces outwards from the supporting body, while the other serrated surface is formed at an inner side of the cassette.

  • Patent number: 6004080
Abstract: A milling tool includes a supporting body that is rotatable around a central axis, and is being equipped with detachable cutting inserts. Each insert has two cutting edges extending at a given setting angle relative to each other. One of the cutting edges is located in a reference plane oriented perpendicular to the axis of rotation. In order to directly or indirectly connect each cutting insert with the supporting body a pair of serrated surfaces are provided, each of the serrated surfaces consisting of oblong, parallel ridges that are separated by grooves. A first one of the serrated surfaces is located at an inner side of the cutting insert, and the other one being directly or indirectly associated with the supporting body. The ridges and the grooves of the serrated surfaces are relative to the reference plane by an angle that constitutes one-half of the setting angle.

  • Patent number: 5800079
Abstract: A milling cutter tool includes a rotary body having recesses spaced along its outer body, each recess receiving an insert-carrying cartridge and a wedge for retaining the cartridge. Leading and trailing surfaces of each recess converge radially inwardly, whereas leading and trailing surfaces of each wedge converge radially outwardly. An actuator pushes each wedge radially outwardly into clamping relationship with the cartridge.

  • Patent number: 5454671
Abstract: A cutting insert for milling tools comprises upper and lower, opposite surfaces (2, 3) of which at least the lower (3) is substantially plane in order to form a base surface to be supported by a cooperating supporting surface of the milling tool, opposite first and second side surfaces (6, 6') and opposite third and fourth side or gable surfaces (7, 7') which each forms a main cutting edge along an edge line that is distanced from the base surface (3), which main cutting edge at its opposite ends joins secondary cutting edges (10, 10', 10", 10'"). Each of the two side surfaces (6, 6') is inclined and forms an obtuse angle with the base surface (3). The two secondary cutting edges joining a common main cutting edge are located in a common plane that forms an obtuse angle with each imaginary plane being parallel with the base surface. The corner angle between a secondary cutting edge and the adjacent main cutting edge is equal at at least two diametrically opposite cutting corners (9).
