  • Publication number: 20190102515
Abstract: Data segments derived from stored oligonucleotides or oligos are decoded, each oligo comprising nucleotides representing information units distributed within segment addresses and payloads, the addresses enabling to order the payloads. The addresses are extracted and the payloads are ordered in function of those addresses. The segments are further clustered into segment clusters in function of edit distances between reference addresses and the extracted addresses, each of those clusters being associated with one of the reference addresses. Cluster payloads associated respectively with at least part of the clusters are determined, and those cluster payloads are ordered in function of the reference addresses of the clusters associated with the cluster payloads.

  • Publication number: 20180046921
Abstract: A code is generated for mapping source to target code words which allows encoding source data at reduced probability of incorrect decoding, e.g. for DNA storage. The target code words are grouped into subsets and comprise identifying and remaining portions. The identifying portions of target code words corresponding to a same subset are identical. A first code symbol set of source code words is selected for addressing the subsets. For the subsets, neighboring subsets are determined. The identifying portions of the target code words of neighboring subsets differ from those of the corresponding subset by up to a predetermined amount of symbols. Source code words are assigned where the corresponding first code symbols address the same subset to said subset such that an amount of target code words of said subset having their remaining portions identical to their neighboring subsets corresponds to an optimization criterion.

  • Patent number: 9787562
Abstract: The invention relates to the technical field of domestic networks. A domestic network based on the present UPnp-Standard allows AV connections to be set up between two network subscriber stations—Network connections such as these are set up and managed under the control of a network station which is in the form of a control point. In this case, the UPnP-Standard allows the network station which is the form of a control point to log off the network after setting up an AV connection, and thus to be inactive while the AV connection that has been set up is in existence. This results in the problem that an AV connection which has been set up unnecessarily remains in existence even after the desired AV data stream has been transmitted, so that further connection requests for such stations must be answered with a rejection.

  • Patent number: 9774351
Abstract: A method (100) and an apparatus (200) for encoding information in codeword sequences are described which help avoid synthesizing reverse complementary nucleotide sequences, making them suitable for synthesizing nucleic acid strands. Multiple codes are provided (102), consisting of a same amount of corresponding code words. No word belongs to more than one code. Each code could completely encode all information units which are encoded using code word sequences generated from the codes. Generating (105) a sequence comprises: selecting (106), from code words of a code, a next code word to be appended to the sequence; appending (108) the next code word if a concatenation of the sequence and the next code word does not contain a reverse complementary of any code symbol sequence that at least partly contains the next code word; and otherwise (109) selecting a corresponding next code word from a different code and repeating the appending.

  • Publication number: 20170109229
Abstract: Code word sequences obtained from data transmission/storage channels, e.g. nucleic acid storage systems, encounter code symbol insertion and deletion errors. A data processing device recovers valid code words from corrupted code word sequences. The valid code words belong to at least one code book of channel modulated code words of identical length. A code word sequence is obtained, presumed code word boundaries for the sequence are determined depending on the identical length, code words corresponding with the boundaries are compared with the code book to identify valid code words, and a section of the sequence is identified as not containing a valid code word. Then shifted code word boundaries are determined for the section assuming at least one insertion or deletion error, and code words corresponding with the shifted boundaries are compared with the code book to identify recovered valid code words.

  • Publication number: 20160118078
Abstract: For storing digital data at a surface of a data carrier, it is proposed to use a block-wise transform pair between a spatial domain and a frequency domain to convert between information elements and recording elements at the surface of the data carrier. This enables that isolated strong data carrier defects affecting a single recording element in a block are converted to smaller amplitude errors on all information elements of a block. For non-continuous-valued information elements, these errors can be removed by quantization.

  • Publication number: 20150269405
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for encoding data as a two-dimensional array of pixels, as well as a method and an apparatus for decoding such data are described. Data bits for encoding are received via an input. An encoder determines blocks of pixels corresponding to the received data bits from an alphabet of allowed blocks of pixels. Each allowed block of pixels represents two or more data bits. Values of the pixels within each block of pixels in said alphabet are selected from three or more allowed values and increase continuously from a lowest value of a first pixel to a highest value of a last pixel when considering the pixels along a spiral or represent a plane having an orientation and an inclination. The blocks of pixels determined for the data bits are combined into a two-dimensional array of pixels. For decoding a pixel analyzer determines properties of pixel values of each retrieved block of pixels.

  • Patent number: 9111162
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for reading a data pattern from or writing a data pattern to a storage medium are described. During reading a pattern retrieval stage retrieves a test pattern and the data pattern from the storage medium. A decoder, which is trained with pattern elements of the retrieved test pattern by a training stage, decodes the retrieved data pattern by performing a comparison between topologies of the retrieved data pattern and representative patterns derived from the test pattern during training of the decoder.

  • Patent number: 8656034
Abstract: The invention relates to the field of data transmission in a network of distributed stations. In this case, the network contains a network connection switching unit which sets up desired connections between network subscriber stations arranged in a star formation. The network system under consideration has provision for network stations to log on in the network using a logon message and to log off using a logoff message. Regular turn-on and turn-off operations allow these logon and logoff messages to be sent. One problem is that when the network cable for a network station is manually decoupled from the network connection switching unit (11) the decoupled network station is no longer able to transmit the proper logoff message. The invention solves the problem through additional means in the network connection switching unit. These detect the decoupling of a network station. The detection means then initiate the automatic sending of the proper logoff message by the network connection switching unit.

  • Patent number: 8335818
Abstract: The invention relates to the technical field of local data transmission networks, in particular domestic networks. In networks such as these, the network stations log on in connection to the network. On disconnection, the network station which is leaving the network logs off in an appropriate manner. In the situation in which the user disconnects a network station simply by pulling out the network cable from the network, it is physically impossible to transmit the logging-off message. The invention is now concerned with the problem of how reliably an inactive network station can be identified, also taking account of the disconnection of the network station simply by pulling out the network plug. The invention solves the problem by regular transmission of a search request to the stations in the network. If a search request remains unanswered by one network station, an HTTP access is additionally attempted to, for example, the device description of the network station in question, or a control request.

  • Patent number: 8200777
Abstract: The invention relates to the technical field of home networks. A home network based on the present UPnP standard (Universal Plug and Play) allows data to be interchanged between network subscriber stations. A UPnP standard may have one or more control point devices. To allow profile information such as user profile or network profile to be interchanged, the invention proposes providing a control point device firstly with an expanded device ascertainment service which can be used to find the other control point devices in the network and also with one or more additionally implemented profile services which allow the other control point devices in the network to be notified about change to profile information on a control point device.
