  • Publication number: 20100260433
Abstract: A system and method for scaling images are provided. An upscaling algorithm or function is employed that increases the size of an image and then filters the upscaled image to remove aliasing artifacts. The system and method provides for acquiring an image of a first size, detecting the geometry of the image, scaling the image to a second size, and filtering the scaled image with at least one filter based on the detected geometry. During the filtering process, the edges of objects in the upscaled image are detected and different filter frequency responses are provided for the detected edges. Providing different filter frequency responses for the detected edges preserves more details for line images.

  • Publication number: 20100128786
Abstract: For two or more versions of a video with different spatial, temporal or SNR resolution, scalability can be achieved by generating a base layer and an enhancement layer. When a version of a video is available that has higher color bit depth than can be displayed, a common solution is tone mapping. A more efficient compression method is proposed for the case where the two or more versions with different color bit depth use different color encoding. The present invention is based on joint inter-layer prediction among the available color channels. Thus, color bit depth scalability can also be used where the two or more versions with different color bit depth use different color encoding. In this case the inter-layer prediction is a joint prediction based on all color components. Prediction may also include color space conversion and gamma correction.

  • Publication number: 20100046622
Abstract: A scalable video bitstream may have an H.264AVC compatible base layer (BL) and a scalable enhancement layer (EL), where scalability refers to color bit depth. The SVC standard allows spatial inter-layer prediction, wherein a residual in the EL is generated which is then intra coded. Another spatial intra-coding mode for EL is pure intra coding (I_NxN). The invention discloses encoding modes wherein the output of enhancement layer decoding is an inter-layer residual. To get the final enhancement layer decoded sequence, the color bit depth inter-layer prediction version of the base layer, which is bit depth upsampled reconstructed base layer information, is added to the inter-layer residual which is decoded from the enhancement layer bit stream.

  • Publication number: 20100027619
Abstract: A scalable video bitstream may have an H.264/AVC compatible base layer (BL) and a scalable enhancement layer (EL), where scalability refers to color bit depth. The H.264/AVC scalability extension SVC provides also other types of scalability, e.g. spatial scalability where the number of pixels in BL and EL are different. According to the invention, BL information is upsampled (TUp,BDUp) in two logical steps in adaptive order, one being texture upsampling and the other being bit depth upsampling. Texture upsampling is a process that increases the number of pixels, and bit depth upsampling is a process that increases the number of values that each pixel can have, corresponding to the pixels color intensity. The upsampled BL data are used to predict the collocated EL. A prediction order indication is transferred so that the decoder can upsample BL information in the same manner as the encoder, wherein the upsampling refers to spatial and bit depth characteristics.

  • Publication number: 20090284554
Abstract: A technique for enabling display of a source color space on a display color space commences by first receiving source color space information. The source color space information undergoes a conversion into a device independent color space. Once converted into the device independent color space, a LUT or other matrix assigns output colors for the input colors corresponding to the specific display device color space. The LUT or other matrix can be generated with the source material and transmitted to the source display device.

  • Publication number: 20090237563
Abstract: A system and method for motion portrayal manipulation includes performing a motion estimation to determine objects in motion in content provided at an acquisition rate. An eye motion trajectory of a viewer is predicted based on the content to determine a region of interest. An object in the area of interest is filtered along an object trajectory to adapt motion of the object to permit display of the acquisition rate on a display device having a refresh rate other than the acquisition rate. The content is portrayed at the acquisition rate on the display device.

  • Publication number: 20090102968
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for determining and providing color metadata for a downlink data channel. In accordance with the present invention color metadata is determined such that gamut mapping is defined by a transmitted source gamut which enables adapted mapping that preserves saturation and contrast levels of the source for a downlink data channel. The metadata is then provided to a downlink data channel for color management.

  • Publication number: 20080198179
Abstract: A display device produces colour images by sequentially projecting monochromatic images. Multispectral light is projected via optical means and a filter arrangement with changeable primary colour filters onto an imaging device. For each primary colour the imaging device produces a number of constant-length pulses corresponding to a desired brightness level. The pulse length is chosen to be as short as possible for a first primary colour. The pulse length for the other primary colours is adapted according to the respective share of the corresponding colour filters in the colour wheel. The time during which secondary colours are produced due to a transition between two primary colour filters is increased by increasing the aperture of the optical means, by spatially relocating the focal point of the optical means for a disc-like filter arrangement, or by accordingly adding pure colour light at the onset and the end of a transition between two colour filter segments which produces secondary colour light.

  • Publication number: 20080106506
Abstract: An imager achieves a desired image resolution by successively reproducing partial images which complement each other. The imager assigns pixels from an input image to the respective partial images according to complementing patterns that correspond to the pixel pattern of the imager. The imager reproduces the complementing pattern at different spatial positions, such that the complementing patterns merge. In order to avoid perceived double imaging of moving object s the image signal provided to the imager is assembled from an original image and a motion compensated interpolated image, which is derived from at least two consecutive images. Accordingly, every other partial image that is reproduced is derived from an interpolated image and takes into account movement of objects in the image that takes place between two consecutive images. In one embodiment the partial images are re-combined into one full image in a sequence that anticipates the distribution of the pixels used in the imaging device.
