  • Patent number: 4804373
Abstract: A device or structure for the introduction of irrigating liquid into the intestine through a stoma or any applicable opening in the body of a patient wherein intestinal irrigation to stimulate fecal evacuation is required. The subject device is further structured to include a primary passage as well as a plurality of secondary channels to insure that fluid communication is established between the interior of the intestine and a fluid channelling conduit which in turn may be connected to a supply or irrigating liquid and a monitoring device for the determination of sufficient peristaltic action in the intestine indicating the introduction of a sufficient amount of irrigating liquid to establish fecal discharge.

  • Patent number: 4769015
Abstract: A mounting assembly for use in the adjustable supporting of various components of a colonic irrigation or flushing apparatus of the type which directs irrigating fluid, by gravity flow, through a flow monitoring device and therefrom through appropriate conduit to an introduction element which is designed to be inserted in the colon entrance for direct delivery of irrigating fluid thereto. The mounting assembly includes an elongated base having a plurality of connecting elements on which various components, such as the supply container and monitoring device are supported and further, wherein the connecting elements are structured for selective movement and placement thereof along the length of the base so as to properly position the supply container, monitoring device and depending conduit and introduction element in a preferred location relative to one another and the user of the apparatus being treated.

  • Patent number: 4698054
Abstract: A method for accomplishing irrigation of the colon and/or other intestinal portions through a stoma including conveying or passing irrigating fluid along an established and confined path of fluid flow from a liquid supply into a stoma cone or like introduction structure and observing and determining increases in peristaltic action within the intestine until evacuation pressure has occurred, through detection of the direction of flow of irrigating fluid and an indicating element contained therein. Peristaltic action taking place in the intestine is indicated through detection of the direction of flow of the indicating element along with the irrigating fluid until the indicating element reaches a preselected point along its restricted path of travel. The introduction of irrigating fluid to the intestine is stopped upon the determination of sufficient peristaltic action to establish evacuation pressure indicated by the indicating element reaching the preselected point along its path of travel.

  • Patent number: 4692158
Abstract: A portable, disposable irrigation assembly of the type used to flush fecal matter from the intestine when normal bodily functions are not sufficient to accomplish evacuation of the intestine. Irrigation of the intestine by irrigating fluid is provided by directing the irrigating fluid from a storage reservoir through an elongated conduit into the intestine by an introduction cone or like structure. The creation of peristaltic action is indicative of sufficient quantity of irrigating fluid being introduced wherein such peristaltic action is sufficient to accomplish evacuation of the fecal matter. An indicator element is disposed withn the flow path and along a path of liquid flow of the irrigating fluid and is specifically structured to flow in the same direction as the irrigating fluid from the reservoir to the intestine and in a reverse direction, from the intestine back through the conduit when peristaltic action is sufficient.

  • Patent number: 4617011
Abstract: An indicator element is movably mounted within a flow channel and is structured to travel along with and in the direction of the passage of irrigating fluid passing through the flow channel. A switching assembly is associated with the flow channel and an indicator assembly for activation of the latter wherein a predetermined position of the indicator element within the flow channel is indicative of the establishment of peristaltic action of the intestine being irrigated and of the intestine receiving adequate irrigating fluid to cause evacuation of the fecal matter contained therein. Activation of the indicator assembly informs the operator that sufficient fluid has entered the intestine to cause the peristaltic action and evacuation so that fluid flow from a fluid supply to the intestine may be stopped.

  • Patent number: 4518382
Abstract: Apparatus for accomplishing irrigation of the colon and/or other intestinal portions through a stoma including an established path of fluid flow of irrigating liquid from a supply container through a feeding tube into a stoma cone or like structure and further including a peristaltic action monitoring device disposed within the path of fluid flow of irrigating fluid which is structured to indicate, through visual observation, the establishment of peristaltic action in the intestine which tends to reverse the direction of flow of the irrigating fluid and provides proper indication when the flow of the irrigating fluid to the intestine or colon should be stopped.
