  • Ash extractables for detering gypsy moth

    Abstract: A method of preparing a substance capable of deterring gypsy moths and gypsy moth larvae is disclosed. Green ash foliage are placed in contact with methanol for a period of time sufficient to extract methanol-soluble compounds from the foliage. The foliage-methanol mixture is filtered, and the filtrate is concentrated. The concentrated filtrate is then contacted with ethyl acetate for a period of time sufficient to extract ethyl acetate-soluble compounds from the concentrated filtrate.
