  • Patent number: 7056363
Abstract: A centrifugal separator for cleaning of a gas from solid and/or liquid particles suspended therein, includes a stationary housing and a rotor arranged therein. The rotor at its one axial end has a central inlet for gas to be cleaned and delimits a central space communicating with the inlet. Around the central space a stack of conical separation discs is arranged in the rotor. These discs form between themselves several through flow passages which at their one ends communicate with the central space in the rotor and at their other ends communicate directly with a receiving chamber surrounding the rotor in the stationary housing. The rotor supports several turbine blades, which are arranged in a ring around the central inlet of the rotor, and at least one nozzle is adapted to direct a gaseous driving fluid towards the turbine blades for the rotor rotation.

  • Patent number: 7052529
Abstract: In a vehicle adapted to be propelled by means of an internal combustion engine crankcase gases coming from the combustion engine are cleaned by means of a centrifugal separator. The rotor of the centrifugal separator is driven by means of pressurized air delivered by a compressor, e.g. a so called turbo compressor, which is driven by means of the combustion engine. During periods when the compressor delivers pressurized air in an insufficient amount and/or at insufficient pressure the rotor of the centrifugal separator is instead driven by means of pressurized air coming from a container containing so called auxiliary pressurized air. The auxiliary pressurized air may have a substantially larger pressure than the pressurized air normally delivered by the compressor. The combustion engine is used also for accomplishing the overpressure of the auxiliary pressurized air in the container.

  • Patent number: 7022163
Abstract: In a vehicle air is compressed for being used in the brake system of the vehicle, for instance. In the compressor, used for the compression, the air is contaminated with oil and solid particles. In order to be relieved from these particles, before the air is conveyed through a drying filter, the compressed is brought to rotation by means of a rotating member in a centrifugal separator. The rotating member may advantageously include a pile of conical separation discs forming flow passages between each other for the compressed air to be cleaned. By means of an efficient cleaning of the compressed air from particles the life time of the drying filter may be increased.

  • Patent number: 6925993
Abstract: An apparatus for cleaning of crankcase gas coming from an internal combustion engine can be carried by and be releasably coupled to the combustion engine. For this purpose the apparatus comprises an adapter element, which can be connected with the combustion engine, and a housing, which can be releasably coupled to the adapter element and which delimits a separation chamber. The housing supports in the separation chamber a centrifugal rotor that is rotatable about a vertical rotational axis and is arranged for cleaning of the crankcase gas. The centrifugal rotor has a drive shaft extending downwards through a bottom in the separation chamber and into a drive chamber, in which the drive shaft carries a turbine wheel. A nozzle is arranged to spray pressurized lubricating oil against the turbine wheel for rotation thereof and of the centrifugal rotor.

  • Patent number: 6755896
Abstract: For cleaning of crankcase gas produced by an internal combustion engine use is made of a centrifugal rotor, that is journalled in a frame through two axially separated bearings. The centrifugal rotor is caused to rotate by use of part of it also as a rotor of an electrical motor. The electrical motor has a stator, which is kept non-rotating and is charged with electric current for rotation of the centrifugal rotor, the centrifugal rotor being kept journalled during its rotation only in the two bearings.

  • Patent number: 6508752
Abstract: In a centrifugal separator for separating solid particles from a liquid, a centrifugal rotor (2) has two axially separated end walls (13, 14) and a surrounding wall (17) arranged therebetween. The end walls (13, 14) and the surrounding wall (17) surround a separation chamber (20) in which there are arranged separation discs (21) and one or more conveyor screws (29, 62) for axial transportation of separated solid particles. According to the invention the end walls are connected with each other through a central member (15), which is dimensioned in a way such that during the rotor operation it will take up a substantial part, preferably at least 80%, of the forces acting axially on the end walls (13, 14) as a consequence of centrifugally generated pressure of liquid present in the separation chamber (20).

  • Patent number: 6312372
Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for the separation of contaminants from a pressurized liquid. Specifically, the apparatus is a centrifugal rotor adapted to be reaction driven by the pressurized liquid arranged within a housing. The housing has an outlet that is oriented in a direction substantially opposite the direction of rotation of the rotor to make it easier for the liquid to leave the housing.

  • Patent number: 6217502
Abstract: In a centrifugal rotor (2) for freeing a liquid from solid particles suspended therein and being heavier than the liquid there is delimited a separation chamber (20), in which one or more conveyor screws (29) are arranged to supply separated particles axially along a surrounding wall (17) of the rotor. Each conveyor screw (29) is connected with a drivable bearing member (31) through a transmission shaft (38) extending out through one end wall (13) of the rotor. This bearing member (31) is journalled in the centrifugal rotor (2) and is situated in a transmission chamber (47) formed between said end wall (13) and a further wall (46).
