  • Patent number: 8464685
Abstract: An internal combustion engine that includes a rotary head that has an expansion chamber and that includes intake and exhaust slots. A drum is disposed in close noncontacting proximity to the inner side of the rotary head. The drum and the rotary head are substantially rotationally symmetric about a common axis. Radially moveable plates respond to a mechanical control mechanism adapted to move each plate from a retracted position in which the plate is located entirely within the outer surface of the drum and an extended position in close proximity to an upper surface of the expansion chamber to substantially seal the expansion chamber. At least one of the plates is present between the intake slot and the exhaust slot such that the combustion gas within the expansion chamber exerts a force on the plate and the drum to produce rotational motion of the rotary head about the common axis.

Abstract: An internal combustion engine that includes a rotary device is disclosed. A rotary head has an expansion chamber that includes intake and exhaust slots. A drum with axial slots radially displaced over its circumference is disposed in close noncontacting proximity to the inner side of the rotary head. • Publication number: 20060283419
Abstract: A continuous internal combustion engine, which has a combustion chamber, a fuel system that delivers a fuel-air mixture to the chamber and ignites the mixture, and a drum with plates that closes the combustion chamber, converting the energy in the expanding combustion gases into rotary motion before discarding the gases. The drum has an outer cylindrical surface centred about its rotational axis, and lengthwise slots are provided in the outer cylindrical surface. Plates extend through the slots, and are displaced radially between retracted and extended positions. The combustion chamber has lower and upper lips, which define circumferentially spaced-apart boundaries of the gate, along with the end plates on each side. The lower lip is in close proximity to the outermost cylinder of the drum, while the upper lip is spaced from the outermost cylinder of the drum, to define there between a discharge passage, gate, along with the end plates on each side.

  • Publication number: 20060283420
Abstract: A continuous internal combustion engine having a combustor operative to produce combustion gases in a combustion chamber and having a fuel and air system for delivering a mixture of fuel and air to the chamber and an ignition device. A cylindrical rotor is mounted outside the combustor for rotation about a first axis on a central shaft. This rotor has a plurality of axially extending slots formed therein and distributed about its circumference. A plurality of vanes extend radially relative to the first axis and each is mounted in the rotor for radial movement in one of the slots. A vane control mechanism moves the vanes between extended and retracted positions during one revolution. A discharge passage is formed between an extension section of the combustor and a circumferentially extending section of the rotor. Each of the vanes passes through this passage in an extended position with an extended portion of the vane substantially filling the cross-section of the passage.
