    Abstract: An electrical connector (1) is mounted on a printed circuit board (2) of a device and exposed to outsides of the device from a window (30) of the outer enclosure (3) of the device. The connector (1) has a housing (10) with a plurality of paired signal contacts (12) and ground contacts (13) installed alternately therein. A latch receiver (16) is received in a cavity (104) formed at one end of the housing (10) to provide the latching mechanism when the connector (1) is mated with a complementary connector (4) having the corresponding latch (41) to lock on the latch receiver (16). The latch receiver (16) further comprises a locking portion (163) with a hook end extending beyond the outer enclosure (3) of the device so that the hook end can reach the rim of the window (30) and lock thereon to move the outer enclosure (3) close enough to the front shell (14) of the connector (1) and a gasket (15) placed in front of the front shell (14).

    Abstract: An electrical connector (1) straddle-mounted on an edge (20) of a printed circuit board (2) includes an insulative housing (10) having an elongated groove (11) for mating. A support subassembly (3) is inserted from the opposing side of the housing (10) to expose its portions in the groove (11). The support subassembly (3) includes two bases (30) with attached signal conductors (5) and a U-shaped ground member (4). Two parallel-arranged side portions (40) of the U-shaped ground member (4) are integrally connected via its central portion and each of them is located parallel to a row of signal conductors (5) as their ground reference. The united ground member (4) can be used to establish ground path to the printed circuit board (2) by fewer contacting legs (42) sheared therefrom and help all parts of the support subassembly (3) to be installed in the connector housing (10) at one time.

Every contact (5) includes an engaging end (51) exposed to the mating groove (11) and a tail end (52) extending out of the receiving channel (13) in a suspended status. And the ground member (4) includes a plurality of contacting legs (42) extending from the ground member (4) and being arranged to stagger with the tail end (52) of every contact (5) along the lengthwise of the connector (1).

A plurality of bumps (106) extends downward from an upper wall of the housing in alignment with the channels for abutting against with an upper face of a corresponding circuit board. The spacer consists of a plurality of identical wafers (21) thereby each two adjacent wafers defining a slot (200) to receive a corresponding circuit board therein. Each wafer has a dielectric base (22), a plurality of terminals (23) attached on a first side of the dielectric base to electrically connect with a corresponding circuit board, and a grounding bus (24) mainly attached on an opposite second side of the dielectric base.

The electrical subassembly includes first and second contact array assemblies (32, 34) each having a PCB (320, 340) and a number of contacts (322, 342) attached on the PCB, front and rear magnetic modules (300, 300′) respectively connected with the first and second PCBs, and a third PCB (36) containing signal conditioning components. The front and rear magnetic modules have upper pins (304, 304′), lower pins (306, 306′) for soldering to a mother board and magnetic coils (31, 31′) connecting with the upper and lower pins. The magnetic modules are electrically connecting with the first and second contacts via some of the upper pins thereof. The others of the upper pins of the magnetic modules are electrically connected to the signal conditioning components on the third PCB.

The magnetic modules each include upward pins (331, 431), downward pins (332, 432), and magnetic coils conductively interconnecting the upward and downward pins. The upward pins are selected to electrically connect to either the two circuit boards or the third circuit board, and the downward pins are adapted for being mounted onto the mother board.

Each contact includes a body portion (12), an upper arm (14) upwardly extending from the body portion for engaging with a first printed circuit board (5) and a lower arm (16) extending downwardly and laterally from the body portion. The lower arm has a free end (162) for resiliently engaging with a second printed circuit board (4) and a curved connecting portion (160) connecting with the body portion. The carrier has a connection stem (62) connecting with the curved connecting portion of the contact. An oblique score (15) is defined between the curved connecting portion of each contact and a corresponding connection stem of the carrier. The contacts can be easily separated from the carrier by bending the connection stems of the carrier along the oblique scores.
