  • Patent number: 6801012
Abstract: A system and methodology for control of a switched reluctance electric machine comprising: a switched reluctance electric machine including a sensor generating and transmitting a sensor signal indicative of an operating characteristic; a controller operatively coupled to the switched reluctance motor and the sensor; and the controller executing a method.
    Type: Grant

  • Publication number: 20040189239
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method for parameter identification in a switched reluctance electric machine comprising: operating the switched reluctance electric machine in response to a desired command; and measuring an actual operating characteristic of the switched reluctance electric machine. The method also includes: modeling the switched reluctance electric machine to formulate an estimated operating characteristic based on the desired command; comparing the actual operating characteristic and the estimated operating characteristic to formulate an error there between; and determining a parameter estimate for the switched reluctance machine based on the error and a previous parameter estimate.

  • Publication number: 20030201749
Abstract: In one method for controlling an electric motor, current turn-on and turn-off rotor-position angles for each motor phase are chosen to substantially maximize the absolute value of average motor torque when the motor is operating in two different quadrants of motor torque and motor speed. The first quadrant has positive motor torque and positive motor speed. The second quadrant has negative torque and positive speed. The third quadrant has negative torque and negative speed. The fourth quadrant has positive torque and negative speed. In another method, the motor is operated in at least one of the first and third quadrants and in at least one of the second and fourth quadrants, wherein the absolute value of motor speed is limited when the motor is operating in the first or third quadrants but not in the second or fourth quadrants. In one example, the motor operates a vehicle brake caliper.

  • Patent number: 4778336
Abstract: An improved cutter pump subassembly for use in a centrifugal pump adapted for chopping and pumping an influent liquid containing solids is disclosed. In such a cutter pump, a suction inlet, discharge outlet, means for driving an impeller and a cutter pump subassembly are provided. The improved cutter pump subassembly comprises a housing, an impeller and a stationary cutter. The housing defines a pump chamber and contains the impeller. The housing also contains a centrally located suction aperture that receives the influent liquid and a spiral channel that conducts the liquid out of the housing. The impeller has a shroud and impeller vanes and is rotatably driven by the means for driving an impeller. The impeller vanes each have an outer circumferential end and an inner shearing edge. The stationary cutter is secured adjacent the suction aperture. The cutter has teeth each having at least one blade.

  • Patent number: 4397608
Abstract: A turbine missile shield is formed by a series of substantially semi-cylindrical, concentric stainless steel shells joined and spaced apart by longitudinal and transverse spreader beams. The longitudinal peripheries of the shells are joined to form mounting rims with bolt holes formed therein to enable mounting on a turbine pedestal or operating floor.
